Ok well the Naniwa horinzontal water stone 180 s has been withdrawn from sale and I was in two minds about it anyway. The one I was after was a 300s Naniwa which was as I said earlier was an imported price and pretty close to what I feel you could have made one for. If you have access to metalwork machinery.

    Default Marunaka

I also own Supersurfacer which hasn’t fired a shot in the 4 years I have owned it. When these machines (auto planer) were sold they were generally sold with a automatic grinding wheel for resharpening. I have been searching for a grinder for a few years with no luck and I’m serious when I mean luck.
My mate searched and found a 600mm auto grinder at $200 and it was ready to go. He knows how lucky he was to find it. I have been told most Supersurfacers in Australia literally go to the dumpmaster along with the knife sharpeners.

Those marunaka are gold. I've helped re-home two now.

    Rare as hen's teeth

Strange you should mention them, for this was exactly what I was thinking of upon reading the OPs post

Hi Wood, yes we have actually spoken about my Marunaka in the past. I can’t say I know much about them other than the first YouTube clip I saw …that was it I started my search. Actually I did see the Makita version some 40 years again and even in those days i I was super impressed but Gill’s tools that had it wouldn’t start it up. He said the blades will get blunt and he couldn’t sharpen them without a lot of drama.

I expect the 100w would be under powered for anything other than small blades, although the baby Tormek has only 120w. The Makita 9820 is 1,000w.

My chainsaw and circular/bandsaw sharpeners all have 350w or more power and they are only grinding a small area at a time.

Here is a lapidary machine that would do the job with horizontally mounted diamond plates...

They do a 12" model with variable speed, but no wattage given on website. It looks like a basic design that could be followed/adapted.

This one over in the Buy & Sell might be of interest to someone... it looks like a dry grinder, but perhaps could be converted to run wet.
