Default How to improve a Tormek T3

    Hi,
I just go a T3 and am very happy with it so far.
When I was reading the manual it said one of the differences between the T3 and T7 was that the water-holder had a magnet on it to catch the shavings.
Well it took me 15 seconds to glue a strong rare earth magnet to the dish and after 2 chisels I had a teaspoon of ultra fine shavings clinging to the inside of the dish.
Some of these would have got into the stone eventually clogging it.
There you go 1 step closer to a T7

This was tip #1, I am hoping to use this tread as a way of sharing Tormek tips.
Tip #2 that I just thought of, glue / rivet a piece of thin steel inside the T3 case at the front and your angle master will now stick to the front for easy access just like a T7

    Regards
    Tom

    Good thinking Tom.

    What are you grinding?

I found with the T7 that once swarf was in the 'bucket' there was no risk of it clogging the wheel. But high carbon steel particles did 'speckle' the wheel cos they rust quickly, obviously. Not such an issue with HSS particles.

One of the things I could add to this thread is that if you have to take a lot of steel off, of either type, then use the cleaning/regrading stone about every two minutes to keep the wheel clean and cutting efficiently. Use the stone edge and don't be shy of putting pressure on.

In time the stone edges will go out of straight so buy another one. Postpones truing the stone with the diamond tool.

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers, Ern
