Default How to mount the Tormek BGM?

I'm finding the instructions a little unclear.

Looking at p. 7 of the manual to determine the height of the block ...

The table lists 2" for an 8" grinder, but is this the gap between the top of the block and the wheel centre (given as S in the diagram) or the height of the block (the table title)?

S is the same for 8 and 10" grinders, and grinder mount heights vary, so I'm guessing the former is the way to go.

How have other users set theirs up?
    Cheers, Ern

    Hi Ern

I did a little playing around with positions as one of my priorites was to be able to use the angle jig. I also added a second set of holes for the rods, which are a tight slip fit, so that I could grind at lower angles should I wish (which has been useful).

    Thanks Derek.

So what was your starting point for the block top in relation to the wheel centre?

Looking again at your setup Derek and the Tormek diagrams, it would seem your block top is S from the wheel centre, and your subsequent mod dropped the bar level. Did this make operating the system easier? ... the sharpening work would be more readily visible it would seem.

    Hi Ern

Yes, I did drop the height. As I noted earlier, one of my priorities was to be able to use the angle setter. This needed to fit under the top of the wheel cover. It was important as I switch between the Tormek and the 8" grinder, and need to set angles that are replicated by each other.
