    Default Nose to the Benchstone

    Well ... pretty close-up at least ...

A razor guy comparing sharpening media and results:

I think those guys know more about using stones dry/wet/with slurry ... or I'm just not reading in the right fora ...

Thanks for the links. Great photographs. Given that he's fooling with razors, those people tend to consider "stropping" on a leather as a step beyond "honing." There doesn't need to be much support metal behind a razor edge, given the intended task. Can I bash one of his razors into a wood block with a 30oz mallet for 90 minutes? Given the task, my 9/15 Pfeil gouge has better survivorship!

I still don't enjoy the sharpening process. I'm trying. Very trying, some posts, yes? I am very curious to discover what the carved wood surface looks like with my tools that I have sharpened/honed. . . . what ever. One of the softer hardwoods here is birch (Betula sp.). I like it. My gouges leave the most amazing glass-glossy tracks in the wood.

That pleases me = the result.
