Optigrind CBN wheel
My new cbn wheel arrived from Carrolls on friday afternoon and today I got around to installing it on my grinder.
Took some photos and a short video because I had trouble working out if it would fit and whatnot when I was doing research.
So anyway here are some piccies of the 200m (8") wheel on an abbot & ashby grinder
stock flange on the shaft
included adaptor slides right on no worries
glamour shot, ready for the wheel
fits!
outer flangey thing goes on next
do the nut up nice and tight!
cover fits back on nicely, no mods needed
Quick video of it spinning up for the first time
Had a bit of a play around after shooting the video, found a washer and put the tool rest back on. Ground some stuff. You sure don't need a lot of pressure! Minimal sparks, not a lot of heat. Only downside I'd say is that it's... noisier when grinding. The steel wheel rings when you're grinding something. It's not really a big deal, muffs take care of it pretty easily.
So far I'd rate it a solid A+. I'll have to set up my tormek grinder jig thingy now and give it a go, will try and remember to update this thread once I have done so
