Thanks. So that is easy to understand. So I'll use mine at the highest number. I will take photos of the blade and get measurements.
I have the eclipse a Nd a obvious knock off copy.

If you use too little set, the plate will bind in the wood. Then add more set.
If you use too much set, the surface finish will be rough. Then reduce the set by wrapping copy paper over the teeth, and squeezing the teeth in a metal vise (a trick from Mike Wenzloff). The paper acts as a depth stop, and the thickness of the paper is ideal for a dovetail saw.
Always finish by deburring/levelling the teeth set with a fine diamond stone. One slide on each side should be enough.

I am going to get a face to face chat with a Bahco rep on Thursday. He's interested in seeing what I am doing. Although I didn't think it is anything that unusual. They have the 4" DEST files, and the rep will advise me with regards the needle files.
My journey of knowledge and skills continues :D
Would this be a useful tool.

It's okay, Matt. Mine came from Lee Valley for testing before they went into production.
I modified mine by adding a small spirit level (from Bunnings) ...

Derek, by modifying your guide with the spirit level, you would also have to make sure the saw blade is level too?
Are these guides ok above 14tpi?
Lyle
Lyle, I checked that the top of the plate was level in the vise.
There is a complete write up here: http://www.inthewoodshop.com/ShopMad...vetailSaw.html
This includes sharpening and setting a 16 ppi rip dovetail saw at 5 degrees.

Bloody capitalist..... :D
One for rip, one for cross-cut....
I had seen these guides in my researching.
I'll try and get one. I'm sure I'll be able to help others in my group to sharpen there saws too.
I have a small spirit level I could use to modify it.
Excellent link of yours Derek. Thanks.
I think the Eclipse has been previously modified.
Photos comparing Ecipse to nonamebrand.
Got a saw file guide coming.
Hopefully get some files soon.
Got a headband magnifier.
Got a good led light.
All ducks nearly lined up.... what could possibly go wrong.
Lyle,
Another opinion considering your heading down a very deep dark rabbit hole.
Is to find a Stanley 42X saw set, the Eclipse is nice an most of us start with one,or maybe two, maybe more but i wont go there, the Stanley is a lot nicer tho.
Cheers Matt.
Agree Matt. The advantage of a Stanley 42X is that the jaws grip the plate and ensure that there is no slippage when the hammer strikes the tooth.
A couple of each. This is helpful to save a setting that you like ...
