Default Scheppach tiger 2000 grinding jigs - are they worth it???

I went to Hare and Forbes' sale on Saturday and they had a set of 4 grinding jigs for $79. They were for axes, scissors, small knives, large knives.
    Are they useful? essential ?
I am a bit new to sharpening and like the idea of a jig, but don't mind fiddling around until I can good good results going "freehand". I don't want to fill up the shed with gadgets.

Yeah, I have that kit and they're OK. Your post is a bit old but if you're still interested, get each out of the box and check that they work in a dry run with a knife. QC and Scheppach can't always be said in the same breath.

The axe holder though in my book is a waste of money. The wetgrinder runs too slow and too fine. I use a file and a stone. Sometimes an angle grinder

    Default Thanks Rsser

I have sort of lost interest in the jigs. The most useful for me would be the knife jigs but lots of people get good results without lots of gadgets.

True. For the av. kitchen knife, most folk get by with a range of bevel angles and a bit of convexity on the bevel is of little consequence.
