Hey Justonething,
I feel like it does. And I feel that the 16000 stone cuts faster and more than the 8000 stone. Which in theory should not make sense.
Cheers,
Bernard
Hey Matt,
Yeah no idea. I'll give them a friendly call soon haha

Bernard
MYSTERY SOLVED
The stone set that I got includes :
1000 HR, 3000 HR, 8000 HC
The 16000 glass stone is also a HR series stone. I've attached the difference between HR and HC below.
All makes sense now! I will buy the 8000grit HR stone and piff the current one I have.
Thank you so much guys!!!
Shapton Glass Stones HR vs HC
There are two different series of the Shapton Glass Stones. There’s the HC series and the HR series. The HC series is a bit softer than the HR. Because of this the HR series is better suited for harder steel types and powder steels. Obviously, the HR series sharpens a bit more aggressive than the HC series. Shapton indicates that the HC-stone can be used for carbon steel blades, but our experience is the HR series will do fine as well.
Hi Bernard
Where do you get your Honerite?
And where did you buy your glass stones? Beard and Blade?
Was just looking at the Shapton lapping stone - only $489 (I was tempted until I saw the price).
Thanks Bernard
Hey Justonething
From these blokes
woodworksupplies.com.au
Last i spoke to them, they had 10 bottles left and I picked up two because they dont know when the next shipment is coming in
Hey Fluddman,
Yep i got my stones from beard and blade. They've got a 10% off with new account, so I just use a new email each purchase.
I just use my trend diamond stone to flatten. I have not have a problem with that. All my stuff is too new to view noticeable wear.
I think the main difference between a shapton lapping stone and a normal diamond stone, is that the shaptons will last longer. But i am not sure how much longer given the 2x price tag.
With my basic googling, beard and blade seems to be the cheapest, with their 10% off too. (unless anyone can point me to somewhere cheaper)
Let me know if you get the lapping stone. Keen to hear how they go!!
Regards,
Bernard
