Sharpening large hollow chisels
Hi all,
As the title says, what's the preferred method of sharpening large square hollow mortise chisels?
All the sharpening kits only go up to 1/2". So how does one go about sharpening 5/8, 3/4 or 1" chisels... Accurately
Is the only method by hand with a file?
Thanks in advance.

If you have a lathe, you could potentially make your own sharpener; just turn up a cone in hardwood and stick some wet/dry sandpaper to it.

Thanks for the suggestion, that was my plan b, but was hoping there was a ready made/long lasting solution.
Suppose the answer is probably not.

Leonard Lee: The Complete Guide to Sharpening. Ch 15, p205.
He shows a countersink-like device, followed by finishing with an abrasive rod (ceramic?)
I like the hardwood cone concept with a taper to match the chisel bevels.

Dad must have cracked the whip! I looked in his book and didn't think to check the catalog.
I do remember thinking that, over the past decade, LV has a better selection and qualities of all sorts of sharpening products.

I had a Powermatic benchtop mortiser that had a diamond cone that came with the machine. It worked fine.
If you search on: diamond cone mortise chisel sharpener; you will get plenty of options.
