Thread: sharpening plane blade

There are lots and lots of threads on sharpening on this forum.

Basically, you will need some sort of honing guide, like a Veritas MkII or some such. Being as you are a youngster, you should probably opt for a cheaper version, such as the ones Bunnings sell for $25.

Then you will need a couple of oil stones of various coarseness. Start with the roughest and work you way up to the finest.

There are plenty of other ways of doing it, but this should get you started.

This old booklet from the (now defunct) maker of Falcon Planes has some good info on sharpening and setting up
