Default Sharpening service for my Freud Thin Kerf?

    Hi all,

Does anyone know of a sharpening service I can send my Freud Thin Kerf Fusion blade to?

Its an awesome blade, just magic, but I was distracted after measuring yesterday and cut straight through my 1 metre steel ruler. I thought the cut seemed a little tougher than normal....

Its now not so flash, still good, but not "crisp".... Freud say to use one of their "good" sharpening services, but none in Aust.

Ideas? (I do have the grind profile, but it looks complex)

Try Hobart Hardchrome Pty Ltd here in Hobart. They are on the web. Their address is Browns Road Kingston. I get all my sharpening done there for saws and planer blades. Their service and precision is fantastic in my experience. Their saw sharpening machine is fully programmable if you have the geometry they can reproduce it and perhaps better it. Good luck with it.

I've had a Freud Fusion and Infinity Combo-Max sharpened at Leuco, very happy with the results.

However, following advice from Infinity, I requested "face grind only" for the sharpening in both cases. This avoids stuffing up the tooth geometry (yes, the grind profile is complex....).

Of course, my blades were only used to cut wood, and were just generally a bit dull. Have you checked the teeth on your blade to see if there is any chipping or other damage?

I agree that the Fusion is a very nice blade - hope yours is restored to its former glory ASAP !

    Hi Evanism,
have you looked at Fitch Sharpening at Fyshwick?
I haven't needed to have anything sharpened there or anywhere else, so I can't actually vouch for or against them, but delbs and I visited it a few weeks ago and I was quite impressed with their range of tools and supplies (the other half of their business).
The place is certainly worth a visit even if you don't decide to get it sharpened there for whatever reason.
I think it's a bit of a 'hidden gem' for Canberra woodworkers (or is it just that I'm rubbish at researching and it's just me that didn't know about it and it's more of a '(not really) hidden in plain sight' kind of place?

Please do let us know what you end up doing with the blade.

    Default A psychic!

    Woodtherapy, is wise and true.

I believe we are going to have a beer and a steak on the 23rd at Delby's place

Delbs asked about sharpening for chisels a bit ago and I thought Fitches would be the right choice as it was recommended by Combined Electrical after I bought another blade for my Festool TS55 (I think that's the number!)

My REAL hassle is the Freud thin kerf is very thin and the geometry is...as the company claims...is a bit odd.

When i spoke to Freud directly they issued all kinds of doom and gloom for sharpening, reinforcing geometry and such. They were emphatic. I didn't fancy wasting a $95 blade with philistines or vandals. I suppose I should take a risk.

Looking forward to meeting you there - and checking out delbs' workshop!
If you can bring the blade (and maybe the ruler?) along it'd be interesting to see how badly they both fared.
Perhaps some more photos could be added to the "No, really... DON'T put fingers into saws because...." file
