    Default Sherwood YF-870

Hello, has anyone had any experience with using the Sherwood YF-870 Circular SW Sharpener.
I am interested in trying to resharpen some of my blunt saw blades, any information or suggestions for a brand will be appreciated.

I had one of these until very recently and sold it on this forum web site. It was a really good machine and did a great job of sharpening my tablesaw blades. The only reason I sold it was i found a local professional who sharpens them for me at a great price.

    Cheers,

    Peter

I bought mine from Forestwest, different colour and possibly made in a different factory but significantly cheaper, and after some minor mods it works real well.

The original fault with the design is that the screw down knob that holds the blade tends to unscrew and release the blade as you rotate to the next tooth.

I fixed mine by replacing their clamp washer and fitting a spring to hold the blade but still allow it to rotate. The indexing pin is useless and I have found that you don't need it.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.
i guess that sharpening saw blades is not a simple matter. It seems that after looking at the information on both of these units that it’s only possible to sharpen the tooth on the front face. But I guess if you can extend the life of the blade then that’s worthwhile.
problem for me personally is that there is not a sharpening service nearby.
Many years ago I had some blades resharpened and the price from memory was $1 per tooth.

You can also sharpen on the top of the teeth at whatever angle they require but there is no need to as once you do the face the tooth is sharp.

The only reason that I can see for doing the top is if a tooth is chipped and then you have to do all the teeth to the same height.

One or two chipped teeth will not affect the cut quality and can be ignored. I have done a blade that lost a tooth and the cut is perfect. It may be a problem if a tooth is bent but I think that would be very rare.
