    Default Some (Stupid) Questions

    Hi all,

    Recently aquired a Ryobi thicknesser, and been searching the forum for a few answers on sharpening blades and found a great jig for it in this thread, the wooden block one, no grindng wheels here.




    There was also a discussion on hollow grinds, micro bevels etc.

    Stupid Question No 1:
    What is a hollow grind?

    Stupid Question No 2:
    Micro Bevels on Thicknesser Blade, Yay or Nay?

    Stupid Question No 3:
    Would Double Sided Blades Present a Problem in above Jig?

    Stupid Question No 4:
    Using the block in above post and scary sharp method, is angle really critical?
    ie; If blade angle is 47 Degrees, my block is 45 Degrees, wouldn't the micro bevel eventually become hone angle? Is this really a problem other than taking more time to sharpen?

    I'm no expert Cruzi but FWIW:

    1. Hollow grind is a concave bevel produced by a grinder wheel.
    2. My two lekky planes/ buzzers have no micro-bevel.
    3. Can't see why, unless the sharp edge drives further into the slot on one side versus the other, so changing the bevel angle slightly.
    4. I doubt whether a couple of degrees would make a critical difference. Just remember to take the wire edge off.
