Tormek warranty & bonuses
Recently there has been a tool distributor bringing in Tormek machines from overseas & selling them off as Australian models. Tormek machines in Australia omly come with warranty when bought from the Authorised distributors. For a full list or to find you nearest distributor go to Promac Tools :: Home . Till the end of June 2012 you will also receive the new swivel base valued @$77 when you register your purchase on the above website

You better make sure that policy is within the law. I dont know what the law is in Australia but I know here in New Zealand that companies must honour warranties even if the product is parallel imported.
I would take the official supplier of tormek to court if they refused to honour the warranty on genuine products regardless of the source of aquisition. You claim your expenses as an agent off the manufactuer anyway so whats the issue
I assume that your that people use there initiative and source genuine machines cheaper than you can supply so you are getting back at them for this by refusing to service thier machines of which you are the agent
This attitude really pisses people off and thats why I choose to bring stuff in from overseas because of retailers #### attitudes
ie here we have a major retailer of woodworking stuff that feels it is ok to charge $200 nzd more than the US dollar price on the same LV plane because they have "overheads" Maybe the need to consider the prime real estate they trade from and the 5 staff they have sitting on thier asses doing nothing in a business that has maybe 25 customers a day. And maybe open later on weekends when real people can get there
thats my 2 cents"All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing"

I think you will find that this policy is within the law. Whilst the manufacturer is obliged to honour whatever warranties are applicable in the country of sale (in this case somewhere overseas) the authorised importer is not.
You as a parellel importer from overseas are responsible for your own warranties and your recourse is direct to the seller to you from overseas and not to another importer.
What you're claiming is similar to say buying a loaf of bread from Woollies and not being happy with it you take it to Coles for exchange.
So I think the post by VEK TOOLS is appropriate as a warning to forumnites not to be ripped of.
Peter.

I think you'll find if you buy it here a warrenty must be adheared to regardless if the vendor has imported it.
Many goods are imported does that mean they are not covered by warranty
or is there a different law for Tormek stuff.

My understanding is that the retailer is the first port of call for any warranty issues of any product

One issue with electrical goods is the voltage concern and that is why some imported goods are not warrented here in Australia like the tormek and Microclene. These have both been set up with the proper motor for the correct voltage, In the past people have purchased these OS and come unstuck, the local importers were asked to do the repairs and they did with no questions asked.
This became a hinderance as the local product was ok but the imported goods were failing and this put the local goods in a bad light.
You take the risk that the goods will work but remember you must return the goods to the point of sale for warranty , expensive OS freight will take the shine of the cheaper imported goods.
Hand tools are a different area all together and your own choice is to buy locally or OS no one can stop you there.
Remember real people own the shops that you are critisising and have a life to lead as well, you are not willing to support them so they work the basic hours.
I dont know how many times I have been asked are we open sunday just because the person is having a day of and wants to go for a drive, we deserve days of as well.Jim Carroll

My reading of the OP is that it is either badly worded, or is factually incorrect though.
My reading is that the OP is talking about a distributer that is importing numbers of the machines into Australia, and then retailing them in Australia to Australian customers. The OP then states that those machines will not be covered by warranty. As has been pointed out, that would be factually incorrect under Australian law. While it may be possible that the authorised Tormek disributer may not agree to honour a warranty on these machines, the retailer selling them must honour the warranty under Australian law, hence the OP warning that these machines would not be covered by a warranty is wrong.
I have no interest in any company importing or selling any machinery in Australia, nor do I own or intend to buy any Tormek or similar product in the near future. The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

What we meant is that you will not get warranty coverage thru the Australian warranty from Tormek Australia. As we learnt from our lesson when triton went down thru gmc we had to honour some warranties due to us being the supplier....a lot if dramas thru courts though. The worst about the case with Tormek is the retailer has an Aussie model on display so you assume everything is ok as the Aus approval numbers are on there but then when they give you the new One in the box it's the overseas model with no c tick approvals

Maybe a bit OT but we have just been through this for something else, concerning warranty repairs on LG goods.
Your first port of call is the business/person you were the client of. Not the official importer but the person/business you bought the product from.
They then go their supplier (or whomever has agreed to do their warranty work) and claim warranty etc.etc.
Which shows that, as Tormek Australia was not involved in the transaction nor had accepted liability for the repairs at POS, they are not liable for the warranty repairs.
Moreover, these days you are, more often than not, liable for the cost of returning the goods to POS.

As an afterthought, in reply to kiwioutdoors.
Would YOU work for free because someone else had broken something they got from somewhere else? My bet is
We are talking BUSINESS, not Charity.
{ie here we have a major retailer of woodworking stuff that feels it is ok to charge $200 nzd more than the US dollar price on the same LV plane because they have "overheads"}
Weeeel, they do, shipping is not free.

25th August 2012, 07:06 AM #13Public apology to VEK.It turned out that it WAS a Promac promotion.
Promac Aust just weren't prepared to honour it and were very rude when I contacted them.
VEK contacted me and offered to supply the base free of charge, even though I had not bought the machine from them.
Base received and duly installed.
Thank you VEK.
Cheers
