Thread: Upside down sharpening

I've seen blokes sharpen their scrapers upside down to get a better wire edge, I tried it & it works for some things but... I'm one of the weirder types who sometimes hones a scraper too.

At $450.00 I think I will give it a miss.

Hell at a 90mb download I'm not that interested in even looking at what it is. Anyone want to post a pic.

There was one of these on the HNT Gordon stand at TwwwShow in Melbourne recently. I didn't see it operate but it looked well made.

Maybe we need Dean to have look at it?

I saw a demo at the melbs WWW show, and yeah, seems pricey.

Not for me

I saw it in action and the Melb WW Show too, it *looks* well made. Certainly a lot of thought and effort have gone into it's design and construction, but, I see several short comings that could easily have been addressed in a better design.

And lets face it, for $450 I'll have a grinder, stones, lapping plate, Veritas honing guide and, I believe, a better result. Credit for a very interesting alternative, but not for me.

I spoke to the guy at the show and was actually quite impressed wit how sharp his tools were. you could literally shave with them. i looked at the blade and used it.. then he sharpened it and the difference was awesome...

However, the price he was asking was quite steep. i'm not sure if i'd pay that much for it.

I think it has limited potential for sharpening gouges. Anything flat, it's definitely not worth the money when you can achieve the same results using a normal honing guide. There's something about having a razor sharp edge mounted upside down and exposed that I don't like.

I saw the show and my reaction was that for $450 it was impossible to justify. IMHO that is way too expensive.
