Default Using strop to hone back bevel

I've been trying to work out how to polish a very low angle back bevel on a strop.

I can use the "ruler trick" on stones, but I only own stones up to 6000 grit. I've found that the strop gives me much better results (and can't afford a higher grit stone), so that's what I'd prefer to use to hone the back bevel.

I shudder to think what would happen if I were to try honing the blade side-to-side on a strop.

The Mk II honing guide suggests that, for very low angle back bevels, the jig be put on a surface lower than the stone itself. I don't much like the idea, since the thickness of the stone changes quite quickly (especially with my soft King stones) so the bevel angle would tend to change, as well.

But would this work with an MDF strop? The strop never changes thickness, so this seems like an ideal solution.

    What do you think?
    Cheers,

    Eddie
