    Default Electric chainsaw sharpener

    Hi all,
I'm considering buying an electric chain sharpener. I'll still use files most of the time, but sometimes I find it nice to bring the angles back if I've been sharpening in the field or hit some rocks etc.
I'm been googling for a while, but can't find much information on what are good brands, and what are brands to avoid.
What should I look for in a sharpening system? It'll have to go to 10 degrees for the lucas mill also. I read about a brand Silvey, but it seems they might have closed down? Do Stihl make a decent one? The Oregeon ones look okay, are they?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ash.

    The Oregon ones a OK

What about this auto model Aussie made Dinasaw Chain Sharpeners - DinaSaw
It also auto corrects for the handedness of the cutters !

I used their bandsaw sharpeners and they are very good.

Most faults with chain sharpening is because sharpeners focus on the cutter and don't spend enough time on the rakers.
If you want to optimise the cutting time and longevity of the chain look into "progressive raker depth setting".
If you don't know about it just ask.

Wow, they're a serious unit. Probably a bit of overkill for my needs. wish I had the money for it though. I'll look into the Oregon units.

Believe that the rustic furniture shop down my street uses a jig made for/by Dremel. Lots of chain on a 36" bar!

    Default Blade Sharpener.

    Hi Ash,
I have one of those Sharpeners, that I bought for the Family but they preferred to do it by hand.
I'm not at home at the moment, so I can't tell you much about it.
It has never been used, but has been opened so as they could look at it.
I paid $88. Could sell it for $65, but 1st. I will have a look to tell you what it is.
    Regards,
    issatree.

I use a diamond bit on a Dremel, I recently bought the cordless. I don't use guides, they slow me down too much, I do it by hand. I regrind the depth gauge after a few chain sharpens using a small grinding stone on the Dremel, again by hand an eye. Plenty good enough for cutting fire wood.

    Default The Sharpener.

    Hi Ash,
This Machine is by " Ranger Tool Co. USA ".
    It has a 220Watt Motor.
Called, " Pro Chainsaw Sharpener "
" Sharpen Chains with Precision Accuracy every time ".
It comes with 2 Pink Grinding Stones ( Wheels) with I think a 3/8in. Arbor Hole, as well as a Set of Tools, which I take it to be for putting the Stones on.
    It's size is 8in. high, 9in. long & 7inches wide. It weighs 2.12Kilos Box & all.
I take it is in Inches because it's from USA.
As far as I can see it is a serious machine.
My Apologies for no Pics, still haven't learnt how to do it.
    Regards,
    issatree.
