12v cordless drill special (well sort of)
If you are in the market for a 12V Dewalt XRP (mod: 980) high torque three speed cordelss drill for between $80 - $100 off retail price (makes it about $360-$380) let me know as I'd be happy help you find a bargain. If you haven't used one - they are spectacular. Be quick as I'm sure someone will work it out and review their price.

PS this is the same drill that score equal best with the festool in the awr review earlier this year & would have done even better if they used the correct speed settings.Last edited by Eastie; 16th June 2004 at 11:08 AM.

Read on:
So, after a little bit of use what do I think?
Well, with the defense of truth I offer this:
- The clutch on the first drill did not operate, even on high speed after repeated attempts. It was taken back for a replacement, albeit to a different branch as the original was out of stock;
- The gear box on the second drill developed a hefty ‘clunk’ after driving three screws. The clunk threw the balance out noticeably - as did the elliptical motion of the chuck. This was returned for replacement to a third store as the first two had run out of stock;
- The third one seems to work ok.
- One of my mates uses the 14.4v version professionally day in - day out and swears by it;
- Another mate uses a 2 speed 12v version - same recommendation;
- AWR had it up head to head in the lead with the festo in their review of 12 volt drive drills; &
- Other dewalt tools I’ve got have performed without flaw.
I'm thinking that if this one works well I've still got a great drill and a bargain price, despite the running around.
There you have it.
