12v Lithium tools: AEG, Milwaukee, Ridgid
Does anyone happen to know if the AEG, Milwaukee and Ridgid 12v Li-ion tools share a common battery?
The Ridgid and AEG drills look the same to my eye. AEG has a very limited range at this stage but if they are indeed the same as the Ridgid tools then we can assume there are more tools on the way (or we can buy the Ridgid tools from OS).
It looks like TTI is keeping Milwaukee for the specialist outlets. They have a big range of compatible tools, just not sure if I need to choose between the Milwaukee & AEG/Ridgid ranges or if they are all interchangeable anyway?

Has anyone found out the answer to this question?
The AEG and Ridgid Multitools look almost exactly the same as do the batteries between the three brands and knowing they are from the same stable (TTi Group) gives me hope.
However, even if the batteries fitted perfectly and the electrical contacts all lined up perfectly, it wouldn't be hard for them to manufacture in electricaly some way of telling if the battery is an AEG, Milwaukee or Ridgid one.

Only in the past few years the battery tool line of AEG, Ridgid and Milwaukee have been virtually the same, with all their components interchangeable, including batteries. You could interchange AEG, Atlas-Copco and Milwaukee batteries between tool of ther same names without trouble. The same story as with Elu and DeWalt battery tools, which also shared factories and backgrounds. But his has not always been so. AEG's battery tool line used to be quite different from the line of Milwaukee, in a time where Ridgid's speciality was more in the field of mains fed thread cutters, sabre saws and core drills. There's only one way to be sure: compare pics and order numbers of parts and ask true owners fo the specific tool type that you want to be sure about.

As all these brands are under the TTI umbrella yes they do. This is only the case in the 12v range, the 18v platform has same internal technology but different outer casing not allowing them to be interchangeable

TTI makes a lot of brands and it makes sense that they use some of the same parts for different models, however the fundamental difference I know of is that the internals can be wildly different in their specs right down to the thickness and quality of copper in the armatures. They are meccano-like in how they deliver end of the line tools. The buyers pick what features they want and TTI puts it all together.
So while you *can* swap batteries there is a risk you are going to shorten the life of your tool if the amperage being delivered is not the same or fluctuates outside what the tool tolerates. Because an AEG battery may have been made with different technology parts than a Milwaukee one for example to meet a price point.
