Can I use 150mm sanding discs on a 125mm sander?
This feels like a dumb question (cause obviously you can) but is there any reason not to beyond maybe the dust holes not lining up and the overhang?

The disk will be unsupported at the edge, leaving the outer 12.5mm or so free to do as it pleases. If at any point the sander runs other than perfectly parallel with the surface, the disk till tend to cup upwards in the unsupported section. You then discover that the backer pad edges are tougher than it's faces, and that the lesser used outer edge of the pad is sharper than the supported central section, and become amazed at just fast these grooves appear in your almost finished surface.
Personally I wouldn't try it, I seen the effect it can have on stainless and mild steel, I wouldn't like to see what it did to wood.I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

Course you can its only 12mm overhang just place the disc evenly on the sander. A bit of mis-alignment won't matter.

You can always trim them to fit and punch holes to suit the sander.

Mixed advice! Appreciate your answers. Hadn't thought of just getting a bigger backing disc. Otherwise might have to trim them down.

Why do you want to put 150mm discs on? Do you have heaps to use up and only have a 125mm Sander?

Choices
Basically three choices:
- Get a 150mm backing pad, or
- Cut existing disks down to 125mm, or
- Get a 150mm ROS, and it is Christmas and you really, really need one.

If this one fits your machine it's a bit better priced, just got to wait a little while for it to arrive.
