Cool $199 GMC Thicknesser Dust/Chip Collection

If you have just purchased one, (or like some of us, have had it for a while), and are thinking of modifying it with a dust/chip collection system hold everything!

After following boban's info, I checked out the Hare & Forbes store here in Melbourne.

Not only do they have the dust collector, but what I was not aware of, is it is specifically designed for their model of thicknesser, which is identical in all ways (except colour and price) to the GMC. All you do is unscrew and remove the chip guard completely, and this one bolts into place! Made from sheet steel (not plastic)

    $29 (as boban said).

    Top view

Side view (looking into 4" port). Note that the unit tapers to prevent dust gathering at the far end.

Bottom view. Note the foam to help seal around the dust exit.

There are now 10 left at the Melbourne store.

Part No. W823. To suit T12B Thicknesser

    Go get em!

    Thumbs up

Hey Stuart, I picked one up in brisbane today!
The guy who served me - Grant, sold it for $25, this was the WWW show price from last month, they sold it at that price because last month they were running a special in line with the show in Brisbane. This was even though they did not have a stand at the show.
Just in case anyone else in QLD wants one (Ruffly or Doug?), there are currently 4 more in stock at Hare and Forbes at Rocklea.
    It fits and works well!

    Thanks

    Felixe

No Doug, there is one in Brisbane, Give them a call and ask for Phil or Grant - Grant sold mine to me so he will know what you want.

    Good on ya stuart
I would have got one but just finished the home made version. Couldn't have a fancy store bought one could I?
Keep the good advice coming especially when your solutions look so similar to my creations.

My thanks to Stuart and Boban for passing on this information. I picked up mine from Hare and Forbes in Melbourne this morning for $29.00.

BTW, the model in Stuarts post is incorrect. The salesman pointed this out to me as I had printed Stuart's post.

The correct number is W823. If others are ordering by phone, email or whatever, it might mean the difference between getting the correct part and not.

Thanks duckman - a dislexic moment (I read the part number off the box, and not off the docket) - on the box it was handwritten, and I musy have misread it or something! I've corrected the original post to reflect the correct number!

    W823!!!

Well bugger me!. The GMC thicknessor is dentical to the Hare and Forbes model, which is identical to my Ryobi, which is identical to the Sherwood, which is identical to the Carbatec, etc etc.

Makes a bit of a nonsense about x brand versus y brand. Badge marketing at its finest!

    Such cynicism!!!

Didn't you know that the colour of the paint makes a real difference to the quality??

Seriously, though - it would be nice if the actual manufacturer of the badged product were identified and they gave their model number to the machine so you could tell that it really is the same and not just a look-alike knock-off.

It would be nice if this wasn't just for woodworking machinery, but also for other "home brand" goods -I want to know who makes the Coles Corn flakes? and the Woolies freeze-dried coffee.
    Cheers

Yeah - and look at the price difference! There may be some modification happening (materials chosen, tolerances accepted), but that's where a good warranty allows you to end up with a good machine (for $199 )

Now... Now Bodgy, keep a civil tongue. Picked up the chute for my GMC ($199 model) this morning at Fiora Machinery in Cannington Perth. They sell all the WW machine for H&F here in Perth. There is one difference besides the paint work. The GMC switch is more advanced having a safety feature (disable by removing in off position). The H&F machine was $360.
At first they did not want to sell it to me because I have a GMC. Said it was because the GMC was not tha same machine and the part would not fit. Took some convincing. So it would be better to NOT mention GMC but their model = T12B as Stuart has stated above.
Definitely worth the $29-70 though. Thanks to all who have done the hard yards in hunting down the dust chute.
    Regards
    Les
