Tool issues for Harry an others to ponder
Whilst in the cave over the last few days I had come to notice some issues taking place with the machines so to start...
1) Ive now fixed the bandsaw issue of wandering blade... by duhhhh changing the bloody blade duhhhh
2) A new issue has arrizen with the jointer
3) A new issue has arrizen with the thicknesser
4) The table saw dust extraction has become an issue
So now to elaborate so that you may be able to advise or help with regard number 2 above... (8in Sherwood)
The timber has been coming off the jointer with a decided slant... in that it seems that the blades are taking of far more on the outside of the blade (side away from the fence)... I have replaced the blades with new ones... I have also tightened the belt it had a 2in slack!!! So I tightened it up to the recommended in the chingalese "handbook manual" thing of 1in... but... the damned thing is still taking far more timber of the far side than the inner...
Could you please advise what I may be missing?
Second problem that I found when I pulled the cover of the motor and the small one at the back of the table... was the small upper pulley has a crack across one end... this I dont think is all the way through or all the way across the pully but close enough to be a tad of a worry... but its definantly there
Could you please advise what I may do to resolve this issue... well its not causing any dramas as yet so I guess the question is rather... what could happen if that crack gives up and a largish chunk of the pulley wheel sheers off?
Issues regarding point 3 above re the thicknesser (15in Sherwood)... this machine has been the bane of my existance since I purchased it
First the belts were buggared
Second one of the wires was nakered
Third the gearbox LEAKS like a seive
Now the issue I have at present relates to when sending a Jarrah board through... it will work fine for a time perhaps 2 lengths of 1inx 6in x 5ft will go through without a hitch then it seems to "hangup" as it passes through in that it will go through smoothly for about a foot then stop give it a gentle push it will move forward a few inches and hangup again and so on... I have given it a heavy dose of Silver glide when it does this but it makes no difference
Could you please advise what I can do to resolve this?
Second issue realated to number 3 the thicknesser... There is a small rubber strip on the infeed side that seems to catch the timber as you feed it through is it okay to remove this? or does it serve some mystical unknown to me purpose?
Now regarding number 4 the table saw extraction issue (HB 10 hooked to a large double bag type extractor) ... I have replaced the normal insert with a timber zero clearance insert and use the flexy tube with the dusty when I use the saw... thing is Ive noticed a buildup of sawdust around the outter perimiter of the base of the saw and there seems a fair amount coming onto the top of the table when cutting... oh and the dusty IS turned on
So could you please advise of a fix for the above table saw issues?
Please take note that I have also removed the Incra fence from the table saw and installed the Beisemyer clone that came with it... there were some issues with the Incra I couldnt surmount so I will build a router table and that will be the fence this should be an easy retro fit and would make a fine router table fence... Im yet to try the beisemeyer type fence as Ive only just fitted it and after some hours of issues with the damned thing sticking and binding on the front track I seem to have resolved them (Will be going out to have a whirl and see how this one works over the Incra
(note the removal of the Incra was due in no way to the fence itself but rather my inability to come to terms with and understand the thing... I remain certain that it is a fanbloodytastic fence but remain convinced it will make a better router fence than a table saw fence... just me I guess)
Cheers and thanks in advance

Jointer, sounds like the blades/cutter head is not in line with the in/outfeed tables, 2 ways around it set the blades using the outfeed table as a reference or shim the rear side bearing pillow block.
Any crack in pulleys should be replaced, its good to go with machined pulleys rather than cast but they are quite expen$ive.
Thicknesser, sounds like your in/out feeding rollers are not adjusted for hardwood(4 big black flathead grub screws on top!)they need to be adjusted/screwed inwards as it increases the pressure applied by the springs under the screws, I mainly only adjust only the serrated infeed roller 1 1/2~2turns between soft and hard woods.
Or is your outfeed table adjusted to high... its about 1' into the machine!
Another problem I've found with my machine is the sharp edge of the casting just after the bed rollers(bottom ones), if you wood has the slightest dip at the start it catches on this... Im tempted to file a relief on these edges. You can get around this by raising the rollers... but you'll end up with bad snipe!
The small rubber strip, is it about 80mm wide and in the middle, its not rubber its metal and its a limiter. On mine it only let you take 1.5mm max passes depending at what height the blades are set in the cutter block... its not there anymore.
Just remember about it though as with it removed its possible to do a 5mm pass, not a prob with say a 100mm wide piece of pine but hardwood will stall the machine.
I've put a small mark on one of the post's to show me 2mm from the lower edge of the casting, I compare the wood to this so as not too remove more than 3mm.
Personally if I only worked in hard wood I would have not removed it as this machine only has 2hp, thats not enough for a 150mm wide 3mm deep pass in hardwood!
Dust extraction on the TSC10hb is its only achillies heel, the only real way is to increase the size of the pipe to 5" or greater and dont block up all the holes as this counteracts draughting... you dont get air flow from a sealed chamber! Seems to me we are only extracting what the blade throws off, the dusty doesnt suck the dust away from the blade itself, so a cross draught seems logical... I see it everyday at work with fume( mind you our dusty flows massive amounts... its driven by a 860KW 600V DC motor, sucking about 1300amps!)
The top you need and overhead guard with a decent sized extraction point, ie 4".....................................................................

Cheers Harry...
Will find and purchase another pulley ASAP and I will go with setting by the outfeed table first and if its still givin me curry will go the other way
Mate Im mostly using Jarrah of late or Kapur or Duran (Meranti I beleive its alternative AUssie name is) and only occasionally throw some soft wood through it so will change the settings... I havent got into the larger peices yet so still working with the little 6in wide bits have to cut them down from their 15ft lengths but havent gone the 12in x 20ft Sepiature yet... went through the small 12in thicknesser last year easy as but this thing Im just not sure its gonna handle them... and yes Ive found the snipe issue! and I will leave that "rubber" thing where it is then
I had a feeling it was something like that with the table saw as this is the only machine that I have issues with the dust collection.. looking inside the bin is just plain interesting isnt it? I mean its not a wonder were getting dust coming out of the handles!
All in all I would say Im mediocrely happy with them but disappointed in other ways... so much money so many hassles eh You know I was thinking tonight that by the time I finally get the buggars sorted and working properly it will be time to fork out all over again and buy NEW ones... and by crikey next time I wont be going cheep!!... not that the cost was actually cheep but well theyre proving the old addage that you get what you pay for when you buy chingalese
Anyway cheers mateBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Sounds like the jointer blades are misaligned. Somewhat fiddly to get right. Monkeying with the pillow block(s) doesn't seem a great idea unless really necessary. For a temporary workaround, set the cut to half of what you want, and run through twice, once each direction. Second bastoid cut will compensate for the first. This will only work with timber that doesn't mind cutting against the grain.
