Default $39 B&D Power Tools at Bunnies

Called in to Bunnies at Artarmon today to pick up something else and saw a pallet load of Black & Decker power tools for $39 each - 1/3 sheet sander, jigsaw, 4" angle grinder, heat gun and a 6" bench grinder. Chinese stuff of course, but with a 2 year warranty. Good value. I guess the other stores will have their allocation.

Picked up an angle grinder, heat gun and a bench grinder. Not sure I really NEED a third bench grinder - but I guess at that price it'd be quite reasonable to stick a wire wheel on it The heat gun & angle grinder won't get a lot of use, but again at that price they're handy to have.

You wonder how they can do it for the price.

When the big B was doing the $39 GMC thing back in June, apart from buying a fixed base router (well two actually ) I also got a 4" angle grinder.

I later bought a diamond wheel from Paul's for $10.

I used both for the first time last weekend to cut some 25mm thick sandstone "tiles" and they worked a treat. Sure, they are not for prolonged use, but if I'd had to go and hire the kit to do the jo I'm sure it would have cost much the same and I'd of had to have given it back.

There ARE things to be said for the el cheapo tools .

What a let down, when I read B&D power tools I got all excited.

I thought it was some kinky toys.

I have worked on the same philosophy going back to Uni days in the '70s and maintaining old cars. Buy the cheap copy for versatility, but get quality (or hire) where really heavy duty is needed.

I still have Korean socket sets I have had 30 years of use from, where I would never have afforded the full quality model. I also have a small no. of American and German individual sockets purchased for specific tasks.

I have extended this into my woodshop over time, with the same success.
