I have been a little remiss in bringing you updates on the saga of the "Accurate Drill Locator." I do have some good reasons, but won't bore you now.

The saga has been resolved satisfactorily under the circumstances. I received a full refund through Paypal on 12 October. The original purchase was on 28 June. The payment appears to have come from the original seller. I believe the might of Paypal was behind this successful outcome so a big tick to them in that regard and it speaks volumes for their back up service. The only question I have is to the reason such sellers can gain a footing in the first place.

I have noticed in the intervening period that adds for this drill locator still appear. Some that I have turned up in the last few days (dates attached to the pix when you click on them):

    Geniwo drill locator 19 oct 2021.pngLeyact drill locator 19 oct 2021.pngWellpob 18 oct 2021.png

When you select these ads they do not take you to the drill locator, but to different tools some of which look very like Woodpecker tools. I am mentioning this just to make forum members and guest viewers aware that they should look very carefully at these sellers before committing hard earned funds!

Again, be guided by the maxim of "Caveat Emptor." (Let the Buyer Beware.)

    Regards
    Paul

Edit Don't be concerned by the "attachment" links in red. They came up when I was too slow in posting and had to renew the post. I cannot now delete them for some strange reason. They are only repeats of the above.

Having been provided with a tracking number from Australia Post I followed the retuned parcel's journey with some interest and was sceptical that it would ever be received.

The initial transit went pretty much as expected and it arrived in China on 22 Sept. Not unreasonable. From then on I thought my worst fears has been realised. Between 2 October and 21 October there were sixteen entries that stated the parcel was "Onboard for delivery." Either the driver was not sure of the location or there was nobody home or they refused to receive it.

Sorry, had to go "large" as "medium" size pix were unreadable. Again bear in mind that my Pay pal refund came through on 10 October, which appears to be well before the item was formally delivered on 22 October. Did PayPal decide skulduggery was at foot too?

This was the address supplied by Paypal:

Zhengzhou Heman Network Technology Co., Ltd.
    Room 2201,
    Block A, Yuxi Building,
    Dongming Road,
    Zhengbian Road,
    Guancheng District,
    Zhengzhou City,
    Henan
    450000 CN.

Even allowing for the fact that Zhengzhou is a very large city of more than twelve million people, It looked very much like an address of convenience to me with probably no employees in attendance. If that was the case it would explain why it took so long to deliver the package.

i would actually love to find the genuine version of this one:

Woodworking mortise and tenon punching fixture - hajhy shop

but yeah another spam facebook ad, clearly scamming a product considering its listed for $65 on the website. but a genuine version does seem like an awesome idea for those of us who dont want to pony up for a domino

    Interesting product.

It is good to be wary, but this product does have more description than the product I bought. With my product there was no real resemblance of what they advertised as it was flimsy plastic and not solid aluminium. The blurb for your product states it is made in anodised aluminium. However, I agree it is a knock off as it is approximately a third of the cost of the Tianli original. It may be OK, although I could not access any of the feedback comments and it is true to say that the feedback maybe genuine, but maybe not. They advertise a return policy too for what it is worth.

Interesting to note that it may only compatible with the Makita trimmer, but that is true of the original. It is worrying that they use the Tianli product in their pix and gifs. This is a link to the original, which they say is only available through Ebay, but that may have changed too:

I spotted what looked like a similar product to the dreaded drill locator:

Upgraded all aluminum alloy adjustable woodworking drill locator guide with 8pcs extension rods flip stops and wrench for positioning tools hole drill Sale - Banggood.com

from Banggood, it looks like the proper item. It is described as aluminium and the videos have no indication that it is a Woodpecker item.

Price is A$98.45 or A$154.71 (both prices include free shipping) depending on how many accessories you require. Beware that the plastic cheapie is lurking there in the background, but at least it is identified as ABS plastic.

Just for those of you who drool over the Woodpecker one-time products.

Are you going to take a chance on this one Paul?

If so, please let us know how it goes.

I think this is the classic "Once bitten, twice shy."

Having said that, I believe this one could be the real deal. I think our best bet is that they send one to Dennis in the Netherlands for evaluation
