I'm looking for accuracy for my new Mitre Saw... I was originally budgeting about £250 but I think I'll have to go to about £600 to get something highly accurate.

I don't want to have to 'buy twice' because I made the wrong choice. I want an all-rounder capable of almost anything, but specifically want the cut angles to be spot on once it's calibrated (but preferably one that will be 100% straight out of the box)...

One of my interests with getting into turning is producing complex segmented bowls and hollow forms, which of course calls for highly accurate angled cuts.

Currently considering the Makita LS1016L 260mm with it's rather impressive DXT - Deep accurate cutting technology. But would consider Metabo, Bosch, Dewalt or any 'major' brand if it comes within budget. I will also need to cut alloy for making flight cases, so bear that in mind.

Do you have any saw suggestions based on experience that will come within a £600 budget?

I can't comment on your saw choice but Makita do have a good reputation. A Bosch Glide saw would be my choice but it is not withing your budget. This might come in handy for setting precise angles with guaranteed repeatability.....

The DeWalt DW 777-XE is the way to go. It's the old Elu updated. Made in Italy. Beautiful machine.

Ive had an ELU for years now , its dead on at the time of buying was around the same price at a mac, and the base was built better, mine wont cut big stuff (a 12 in be nice now and then, ) but i only needed it for smaller stuff.

the Hitachi C12RSH should also be in price range, if you shop around - it's a zero clearance saw so you can use it against a wall, very handy for bench use. It's probably the only zero clearance slider in your price range. It is accurate but also quite big and heavy, not sure I'd use it as a portable saw.

After stewart59's recommendation I had a look at the DeWalt range. I particularly liked some of the features and have gone for the Dewalt DW717XPS... Should be here in a few days! Thanks for the help.

The dewalt dW717 is a 10" saw, unlike the dw777 which is 8 1/2". Two completely different saws, in Aus the dw777 is one of the market leaders for fit out guys due to its compactness & accuracy, dw717 is a great saw also & does well in its class
