Default advice on hitachi planer blades?

Hey i'm just wondering if anyone can give me some guidance with blade placement for a hitachi planer- it is on 'long-term borrow' to me, and therefore came with no instruction booklet! (thanks dad). The blades are double sided and so i have rotated them but i am assuming there is a bit of a rule of thumb with how far the blade edge should overhang the plate it is fixed to...? Logic tells me that it should only be a matter of 1 or 2 mm, or the max depth i will likely plane, yet being a bit of a stooge i'd rather get some advice than have to shell out on new blades if i stuff these ones!

Blades should be aligned to be flush with the rear base of the planer (for a hand planer) or the outfeed table (for a jointer/buzzer). Then the depth of cut is set by adjusting the lead in base or infeed table to expose the required amount of blade for the chosen DOC.

When setting the blades, you need to get them set evenly accross their width, relative to the base or table, i.e cutting evenly accross the width of the cutter head.
