AEG 305 scms
Hey Everyone,
This is my first post just wondering if anyone out there has the AEG 305 SCMS?
I've been searching for reviews but can't find them anywhere? Just looking for an SCMS at bunnings and came across this one the sliding action feels pretty solid just wanted to get some user feed back.
Thanks guys

Hi Quinny,
I can't comment on the AEG but Bunnings also have the:
Roll over product image to zoom
255mm Makita Slide Compound Mitre Saw
I/N: 6240084
$479.00 each
Price correct as at Monday, 05 December 2011
At $320 Cheaper than the AEG, it is no contest as far as I can see.
I know that the blade is a little bigger on the AEG and it is a more powerful motor, but for my money the Makita wins hands down.
Cheers

Everyone seems quick to put down AEG these days. Ive been a bosch professional range all my life but have recently come to purchase a couple of AEG items. To be honest, I cannot knock it at all. They seem to have spent the time putting together a product line that is far better quality than years gone by. And their customer service is second to none if there is ever a problem.
I think as long as you check the saw for any freeplay and make sure it is tight when locked into 0' cuts etc then by all means go for it.

Thanks for the feed back guys, I've looked at a few of the cheaper ones but found the slide action didn't seem solid. I'll look at the Makita ones what models do you guys recommend?

What size saw are you after? 12" or 10"?
The one SG mentioned above seems like a good deal. I'm prety sure it's the LS1018L but you might want to check up on it.
I personally have the LS1214 which is the older model 12" and it's great. I havn't used an AEG so I can't really compare the two, but I havn't seen too many people who have been unhappy with their makitas.

Depending on your application, the poster who supports the new AEG product may well have a point. I once used the really REALLY old AEG tools and liked them very much. I have had a look at the new AEG scms and other new AEG tools in the last few days and they seem ok at first site. Like nearly all others they still have the guide rails going out the back and it just doesn't feel solid enough for me. The mitre indexing worked a treat, very simple and positive AND it had a horizontal handle. Yeehaa. Horses for courses though and I'd like to hear what the heavy users think.
There are varying grades of Makita now too, so be warned.

It doesn't end here tho quinny1, you've now got to tell us what you're using it for and what think of it after a while. I, for one, would be interested.

Yes, after much reading here and elsewhere, and trying to gauge the "give" in different saws, I ended up buying one of these this week too. This one in a kit with a stand and vac, all from Milwaukee. Should be delivered next week, so looking forward to setting it up and giving it a run.
