Thread: Why is AEG cheap?

Gerhard, one thing that can be said for Atlas Copco's stewardship of AEG was the application of the science of ergonomics to their power tools. Some of the designs were groundbreaking and possibly even rather "brave".

I have a few AEG/Kango/Atlas Copco tools from that era, and I must say that they seem very well designed. I've always had the opinion that you should be able to concentrate on the workpiece/cutter interface rather than the tool to work effectively and safely. These tools allow you to do this better than most.

When those machines gave out, did you go for the Insurance, or get in touch with the Suppliers. I have found the Insurance people very good.
Surely they would want to know their Product failed, & so quick at that.
I have an Electrician friend, & he has only the Milwaukee Brand, cordless all, saw, drills, screwdriver, torch, etc. They have these so they don't have to take a E/Lead up over all the Sharp Edges you may find in a Ceiling.
It doesn't hurt to ask.

I hope you all had a merry Christmas yesterday. Nothing quite like the sound of kids playing with several hundred dollar cardboard boxes and each other

I'd like to ask if anyone can confirm the manufacturing origins of the AEG HBS1000E (buyout blue model at Just Tools). I apologise but I can't bring myself to purchase products made in China of late -- not tools at any rate. However I'm not flush with cash either and need to be realistic :/

Could anyone suggest whether it's a 'quality AEG tools' ?
In fact, the shop has 2 of it on stock and convince that it's still originally "made in Germany" .... and not China product as the latest AEG product !

Another interesting fact is, they just want to 'get rid of it' ...... so it cost only Rp.900,000 ( approx. A$ 110 )
++with bonus a rabeting guide (used to sold separately).
Is it a good bargain ?

I really need to hear your suggestion, as you know, nowadays it's almost impossible to finding a European made/brand tools here in Indonesia.

I just bought one of the blue AEG belt sanders and gave it a good workout on some spotted gum and couldn't be more pleased. It's sanding capability was solid and dust extraction quite efficient. It was also at a runout price for $185 whereas the Big B had the orange version of exactly the same tool for $299!

Sounds like a real bargain. These "old stock" AEGs are really good quality, German made planers. They're also extra safe. They have a blade guard that swings down to completely cover the cutterhead. You won't be disappointed. Although discontinued, there's so many of them around still in use that you can still get parts like drive belts, carbon brushes etc. from e-bay.

Lazyfly, I believe that the belt sander you're buying is Asian, presumably made by one of Ryobi's affiliates in China. I can't comment on its quality or lack thereof, but I have noticed that Metabo are marketing their own green version of this machine now as a replacement for their original licenced sander made by Holz-Her/Festool. As one of the world's premier toolmakers they couldn't afford the fallout from selling junk. It seems like a very good price, however, don't forget the wisdom of the words "a price that's too good to be true often is". Best of luck.

its cheap because its junk, a once world class product reduced to a bargain priced mix of tools built by more than 1 company trading on its name only.
