Air Compressor & Nail Gun Question
I picked up an Arlec 2hp 24litre 7.9 cfm air compressor from Kmart the other day for $50 (they are trying to clear this stock). I intended to use it to do a fence and later build in under my house. I wasn't sure about what I needed in the compressor but the price seemed too good. I emailed Arlec if it would run a framing gun. They told me that it would depend on the cfm of the gun. I gather it has something to with rate of flow. Can anyone offer any advice otherwise I am going to take it back.

It will run just about any pneumatic framing gun without a problem, unless you're firing 2 nails per second continuously
Nail guns use up very little air compared to other 'continuous use' air tools (sanders, spray guns etc). How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?

Will run a framing gun no problems. Your motor won't run continuously unless you nail at a very fast rate or have leaking pipe.

CFM is cubic feet per minute - which is the volume of air that the compressor puts out. Tools will come with a cfm rating- but as others have said a nail gun will not need many. The other measurement of interest in air tools is psi. Most nailguns I've used run at 90 psi - your compressor should handle this. You sometimes need to go higher with tough hardwood.
