    Default Altering speed of linisher

This question no doubt confirms me as an electronic drongo: Is it possible to fit some sort of converter or whatever to a 3000rpm linisher to slow it down? One or two much slower speeds would be very useful.

    Hi Jamie,
Cone or stepped pulleys?? The older linisher at work as them fitted, but a bugger to change speeds.

    Cheers,

There should be an electrical 'black box' gadget that you can put in the power supply chain, but I don't have a source for one off hand - basically it is a little version of the 3 phase speed controllers. and being for an induction motor its not as simple as the speed contol for a 'Universal' motor, which you can pick up in kit for from places like Jaycar or Dick Smith.

You would probably have to talk to someone who supplies industrial motors, but be prepared for some sticker shock

For an induction motor you need a variable frequency drive.

It would appear that they are not a chaep device by any means....but ther has to be a cheap source of theses somewhere.

change of pully size would be a reasonable choice.
some linishers have the pully cut on the back of the sanding disk or one of the rollers which makes things a lot harder.

    cheers

    Cheers,
Cone i guess. This is a smallish linisher with disc, bed and spool attachment. No pulleys in sight.

Sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth. I needed a slower speed to sand curved components on the spool attachment, but have found releasing most of the air from it makes it much more user friendly.
