G'day, Hoffa. I picked up my Artisan Combo machine today from a Graysonline sale. I don't know much about these sort of machines, and not much more about this one. The planer thingy is 200mm wide, so I guess that makes it the 8" one, and it has a 12" saw. It has a thicknesser under the planer/jointer with a power feed but I haven't worked out how to start it yet. I could post some photos if you want but be warned - this thing is pretty ugly and will be getting some TLC soon. Love to hear how yours is going and if anyone else has one out there.

G'day, again.
Finally worked out how to attach some pics, so here they are:
Attachment 74147
Attachment 74145
Attachment 74146
Have started cleaning it up a little. Seems to be working pretty well. The blades will be sharpened next week, so will see how the thicknesser/planer'jointer goes then.

Inherited Artisan Powerfeed Combination
Hello forum, I have inherited my father's machine. It is the 12 inch model with 8 inch powerfeed buzzer. My father purchased it from McKewns in 1957 when he was a builder in country Victoria. I still have most of the accessories and have been useing the machine for the past ten years I am not a tradesman and only use it occasionally for small jobs. A couple of months ago it blew the fuses in my garage when I went to use it. I am at the cross roads. Do I repair it (still has the original motor) or is there someone out there who would like to make me an offer. I will send pictures to any interested enthusiast. email; [email protected]
cheers Chaos.

Hi, thought I had posted this before but here is a PDF of my owner's manual for the 6" Artisan.
For those that can remember the original was a Gestetner duplicate...

Thanks for manual
G'day. I've been a little busy for the last few months (make that years) with building a strawbale house and having kids to watch this forum. My bad! Thanks for the manual, Saskatoon! I've done a fair bit of work with it during the build, and there is plenty more to go as well. Looking at people's comments, it seems like these are great machines. Mine certainly is. Given that it must be about 50 years old, its pretty amazing that it is still in perfect working order.
A couple of things would help though, and apologies for the lack of lingo:
There is a slot on the LHS of the table for some sort of guide for the table saw. Is it a matter of "make my own" or are there ones to be had out there?
Is there some sort of device to assist in getting the planer/thicknesser blades nice and evenly installed? I get slight corrugations in my work when I use the thicknesser, but am struggling to get them all just right. Any suggestions out there?

Artisan Combo
Hi all, Newbie to thread. Im interested in an older artisan combo. Before I go too far are HSS or TC planer blades available for these machines. It no good as far as I can preceive getting it and finding that blades aren't.
Thanks,
Ubonvet

Hi Ubonvet, Should be able to get planer blades made to order by your local friendly saw doctor. This involves buying HSS stock in an appropriate size, cutting to length, then grinding with a specialist grinding machine.
You might also be able to get off the shelf ones to suit via one of the machine importers like H+F or Carbi Tech. These would be replacements for their machines that happen to be similar size rather than factory product intended/labelled as fitting your machine
If the machine you are considering already has blades, you can get them reground at the saw doc so that they are matched for height (balance) and dead straight and razor sharp. I had a 40 yo set reground on Friday, grind looked reasonable when they came out of the machine, but I could not get an even polish with a stone, so opted to regrind them. They even looked reasonable lined up as a set on the machine till it started grinding, but took more than .5mm off them to get a straight and even face on the full set, then a little more to polish.
This grinding machine also can use a diamond head for TC blades.
