    Default Belt sander issue

I recently bought a skill Brand belt sander. its about 20 or so years old in the origional box with a price of $75 dollars on it. Nice condition and goes well.

    But I have an issue

My belts keep breaking on the glue line. I am sure i had them on in the right direction in the direction of travel. Went through 4 in 5 minutes tonight before giving up.
Is this likely to be related to just being old belts ie old adhesive or some other issue.

Is there a glue I can use to fix them or just buy some new ones ?

Hi it's just age. Joints get wonky with age in sanding belts as well as Woodies.
I bought a three pack for a borrowed belt sander and only used one, the others lay around for about 15 years before I got a Wasp sander that used the same size, they lasted two minutes each.
    Regards

you could try contact adhesive, but if you only have a few it's probably not worth the effort

Unfortunately old belts or belts which have been subjected to high humidity/temperature all seem to suffer the same problem.

Buy new belts - use the old belts for use on sanding blocks - even following a thread on the forum a while back there did not appear to be a viable cure.

3M fiberglass tape -may- work - that is what seems to be used on some commercial belts with a butted join rather than the overlapped type. Of course, it a bggr to find these days, and if it a few years old the glue gets gummy (it never really lets go - I have some that is 20 years old & still holding) and may smear on your wheels & platten.
