Black and Decker aluminium body 9 1/4 saw
I know at least one other person here has one.
I have been told brushes are unobtainable. If this is incorrect please let me know.
Meanwhile I noticed that the brushes I received today for my Triton MOF001 router are sufficiently similar that they could be adapted.
Worth knowing if you have one and love your saw like I do.
I would be very interested in others experiences with them, particularly getting parts/service etc...

I have one. It belonged to my father who was a builder back in the sixties and seventies. What a great old saw. I've been using it for many years now myself and it has never let down. I also used to have the 9 1/4's little brother but it died about 10 years ago.
I've never needed to buy any parts for the 9 1/4 so I can't help you out there. I'd be interested if parts are still available or adaptable for future reference.
I couldn't imagine a Black & Decker lasting 30+ years these days.

Damian,
Could you post a picture so I can check on the weekend if I have the same one in the shed. If it is you can have the saw for $20.
Cheers,

I'll see what I can do. If your at Park Ridge I come down that way regularly. I have friends at Munruben At $20 I'd probably have it anyway if you want to get rid of it. One can't have too many circular saws. Until I bought a router a while back I'd do everything with my circular saw, including a lot of stuff you probably shouldn't...

Thanks for that, I'll chase it up. Mine is fine but I've been worrying for a while it'll need work some day so I want to be ready. I use it freehand but it's really heavy, but it's a magic table saw.

I think from here on in two of any tool will be enough and the rest can go to deserving homes. I self banned from the shed at the moment (did it before SWMBO did it). After some of the safety posting we have read here I ban myself from powertools if I'm sick or over-tired. Talk on the week end.
Cheers,

Yep, good chance.
I took mine in to a tool shop for something about 15 years ago and they were eager to know whether I wanted to sell it. Its seen better days, don't use it as much now but it still goes well.

I got one too, had it for 42 years and it was secondhand when I bought it, still goes well but doesn't get a lot of use these days.
Them were the days for B&D, we used to have the aluminium body B&D 1/4" drills on all our trucks, the guys used to run them so hard you couldn't touch the casing and they still hung in there, from memory we bought then from the local hardware probably around $10 or so.

My son has one that he inherited from from my father-in-law.
It is more than 45 years old to my knowledge.
Between us we have cut everything from concrete to roofing sheets with it with the appropriate blades.Tom

Right, a thread about antique power tools. I'll have to take some pics of mine this weekend. I think I have a couple of ancient drills also. Possibly one of those B&D and maybe an aluminium skill. And a box of accessories...
