BOSCH 18V 165mm Circular Saw
Hi,
A while back I posted a question about fixing my old Makita circular saw that has a bent bottom plate. I've had a few goes at straightening it however I haven't been able to. I have an upcoming project so I'm thinking I'd be better off replacing it. I'm looking at one of these:
BOSCH 18V 165mm Circular Saw Skin GKS 18V-LI 060166H040 | Total Tools
I already have the cordless drill and driver with a compatible battery and I'm really happy with them.
Any known problems with these, or anything to be aware of before taking the plunge?
Cheers!

I haven’t used the saw but my brother has their new drill and driver which I was using last week and they were very nice tools to use. If you already have their gear it is a good deal particularly with a free battery via redemption and would happily buy it myself
The only consideration would be that your intended use is within the capabilities of an 18v saw.

I bought this one to replace a dying Milwaukee...
Has a heavy base which works with the saw track...something for a later purchase.
I ripped a 400 long of 170 x 40 piece of Spotted Gum on the weekend and it worked pretty well....

Just make sure you have the correct battery. The Bosch Blue (trades) and Bosch Green (DIY) are both 18v but the batteries are not interchangeable.

I have one and they feel nice in the hand but they don't leave a very smooth kerf. They come with a thin kerf blade, obviously to cut down on power needed but they flex while cutting leaving a rough edge. The blade is on the left side which is different to most other brands and it feels hard to use. I have a Makita corded saw of similar size with the blade on the right and it just feels more comfortable and intuitive, but maybe that is just me or it is designed more for a left handed person. I use mine mainly for just breaking wood down to smaller sizes to put through machines.

Just had a look at the Total Tools site again and they also have this model and it has the blade on the RHS of the motor which would be a lot more comfortable for a righthander to use. Must be a new model as it's $50 more and appears to have a different blade. Has the same redemption offer as the cheaper one. I also saw a 7 1/4' version at Bunnings yesterday but that might just be a local thing as it's not on their website.

I was a sydney tools the other day buying a corded saw. I have all Makita so am sticking with that... But I asked the guy at checkout which cordless brands come back the least. Without hesitation, he said blue Bosch. He added that Milwaukee come back probably the most. So what ever that's worth...

Perhaps you should have also asked what sells the most?
Where I work we have multiple contractors on site. I see lots of Milwaukee and Makita gear. Not much Bosch.

I have the blue Bosch saw with the blade on the right. Initially I found it a little gutless, took it back for repair and now it's better, but nowhere near my old Hitachi corded. It is battery dependent. A 1 Amp battery does not cut like my 5 Amp.
The Bosch team tells me that should not make a diff as the amps are about time not power. But the locksmith that comes into work tell me it quite definitely does, and my experience concurs.
