Bosch Blue - Jigsaw
My 40+ year old B&D jigsaw is off to a well earned retirement and I have been investigation an alternative.
After considerable deliberation the preferred one is a Bosch GST 140, there are fall back options of course. These are corded not battery.
Thanks in anticipation, I am not seeking confirmation etc of my choice but would like anybody in "the know" to inform me of what Bosch may be up to - as follows.
There is very little stock about (in Canberra) of this or the other Bosch Blue jigsaw models. One major supplier is no longer supporting Bosch and another major supplier (I'm reluctant to give names) is still a Bosch partner but has been requested to return stock.
The latter supplier informed me that they have no stock GST 140 jigsaw and it is no longer available, although it is still on the Bosch Aust website and one is at Total Tools according to website.
This makes me wonder if some new models coming onto the market here. With this in mind, I checked to see what is available in Europe, including Germany, as this is the obvious place where things should be up to date. There is no GST 140 but a GST 160 which is an improved model. I get the impression this model has been available in Europe for a long time, probably years!
Seems Aust may have a superseded model at a premium price.
The question is - Will Bosch bring out a new range of stock before Christmas. Hopefully at attractive pricing.

This is heresay, not confirmed fact, and I am not sure where I heard it at this moment.
My understanding is Bosch have pulled out of all distribution arrangements with one exception, and their products (whether blue only, or blue and green) are going to be retailed exclusively by this organisation.
On that basis, and the basis of a severe drop off in quality in other Bosch products, I've abstained from obtaining any further, and I'm kind of glad I only have one of their products at this stage.

This is generally in line with what I have heard, but it may be divided between DIY at one and professional/trade at another. Both owned by same entity. Also heresay.

Ok what is the big secret?

No big secret, just avoiding name mentioning in case those names get narky and come after us posters (at least, that was my intent).
The place I'd heard that was getting exclusive is a very major Australia-wide hardware chain that everyone knows about - they have a store in most nearly every suburb.

Just say if you mean Bunnings they can't say anything unless you intend some malicious intent may even give them some unpaid market research, such as I would probably not buy Bosch any more if they set a monopoly favoured sales systemremoving my choice

to answer your question -- I think it very unlikely. Based on what I see in retailers, the Christmas selling season starts at the end of October, if not before. It is definitely well underway by now.
But more importantly, in my experience, Bosch green and Ryobi are "Christmas present" tools. Bosch Blue is not.
As to your choice, Australia is a relatively small market, it's quite possible that Bosch Australia brought a quantity of GST 140s into Australia some years ago and are only now getting to the end of that stock.regards from Alberta, Canada

Back in 2008, ACCC investigated and decided to not take any further action following Bunnings and Techtronic Industries Australia Pty Ltd* (the Australian distributor of the Ryobi brand) entering into an exclusive marketing agreement.
Documents on the ACCC's web site suggests that at the time (2008) Bosch were not overly happy with ACCC's position. In their written submission, Bosch Australia said it "supplies power tools to Bunnings and Mitre 10 as well as several hundred other small retailers. The channel for supply of power tools is quite consolidated within the Australian market, with Bunnings being the most significant retail player." (my emphasis)
Perhaps 10 years on, with Wollies (Masters) having exited the retail hardware market, Bosch is acknowledging Bunnings' retail dominance.
* Techtronic Industries (Ryobi, AEG, Milwaukee, Hoover, among others) is not the same as Tooltechnic Systems, the Festool importerregards from Alberta, Canada

I agree Ian, what concerns me is we are heading for the day when there will only be Bunnings

I suspect that we will end with a duopoly -- Bunnings vs an expanded Mitre10/Home Hardware. with a handful of specialist tool retailers.
This is essentially the situation in Canada, where it's HomeDepot (the original BORG -- Big Orange Retail Giant) and Lowes (who, I believe, recently took over the other Rona, the other Canadian national chain).regards from Alberta, Canada

Thanks for all the thouhtful insight.
There is unfortunately this trend for consolidation of the hardware market to the big players as the small suburban and town hardware stores can't compete.
I learned a few days ago that Blackwoods is also owned by Westfarmers and it was suggested they may be the "trade" side of supply for tools and Bunnings the DIY.
Sydney Tools no longer support Bosch (or reverse as more likely).

At least Mitre 10 are private businesses.
Bunnings has the lions share of the retail business in the big cities but are still mainly retail and do not get much of the tradies and builders business.
They still favour the little businesses for service and price.

unfortunately(?) it's a worldwide trend, e.g. Stanley and HomeDepot https://www.finewoodworking.com/2018...hip-home-depot

are you sure?
Mitre10 is owned by Metcash see https://www.metcash.com/our-businesses/hardware/
I'm not sure if Metcash's business model for Mitre10 (acquired in 2012), Home Timber and Hardware (acquired from Woollies in 2016), etc, is a franchise one (where Metcash is the only permissible wholesaler) or if some stores are wholly owned. this article suggests a mix of the two https://www.afr.com/business/retail/...0170322-gv4e1j
"locally owned" would imply a franchise business modelregards from Alberta, Canada

Ian I am not certain but I thought it was more a buying group type arrangement and the stores are still independently owned, similar concept to IGA food stores.
Which is why they go so well in smaller townships as they are in tune with local consumer needs. You often see the Mitre 10 name on them prefaced with the stores name
