I don't have one myself, think it's the same as my dad's one. He asked me to have a look at some bits that he sharpened as they were not drilling too well.

The main problem with it was that it didn't grind the correct angle on the back.

I will take some photos of a drill bit tomorrow and show you what I mean.

It is easily fixed, you just have to know what to do.
    Cheers

    Hi Farmboy,

Well I found a drill bit, it badly needs sharpening  but I can do that when I need it .

In the picture you will see that I have pointed out the back edge of the flutes. If this spot is ground straight across it will rub in the hole you are trying to drill and lift the cutting edge away from the material.

One of the probs with these sharpeners is people put the bit in and see a nice sharp cutting edge and think gees that looks good but the relief angle hasn't been ground.

I think you need to keep the bit in a bit longer on the last bit and twist it a wee bit so the it grinds that last bit. As long as you have that curve that starts at the cutting tip to the point that I have shown and it is lower than the cutting edge you will be right .

You may have to touch it up on the bench grinder after.
    Cheers
