    Default Bosch GEX125 AVE

    I'm having problems with my random orbital sander spitting off the Velcro pad. Tried using it twice today, within seconds of use off comes the pad. happens with the 125mm pad, didn't happen with the 150mm pad. Although I've noticed that the top of thread on the bolt holding the pad on is a little worn, because of the out of control spinning pad. The centre locating hole is worn on the 125mm pad as well. The 150 mm pad is ok, but I don't want to use it until I've sorted the problem.
    Has anyone on the forum had this problem before? How did you remedy the problem? Is it just a matter of replacing the bolt?

    I had a few issues with mine (PEX400) similar to what you’re having, I purchased a replacement Velcro base plate and when I reinstalled it I used a little low grip thread adhesive to stop the bolt coming out. It’s been great for the last five years since.

    Is it the sanding disc or the pad coming off ?

    If its the sanding disc you just need a new velcro pad.

    If its the pad coming off then there is something really wrong, the pad is located onto a hub with three locating pins, the bolt holds the pad to the hub. The centre hole should have no force applied That would enlarge it unless the pad has not been fitted to the engagement pins. Once engaged the bolt has to be tight but it does not take significant force from the pad it is all tensile load.

    Thanks Cal, after I buy a new pad and screw I'll try putting on a bit of lockthread/low grip adhesive. And see how it goes.
    Droog, the old version of the gex125 had 3 locating pins (which I never had a problem with, don't know why people [bosch] insist on fixing things that aren't broken). The new version has a connection that resembles a sprocket/gear like appearance. I had the older version, never had a problem with it.

    I had the same problem.

    Turns out I wasnt tightening the bolt enough; required considerably more force then expected

    I posted the exact same problem a month or two ago. It happens more with the hard 150m pad which is an accessory.
    A drop of a weak threadlocker solved my problem but it shouldn’t happen.

    Bosch will do nothing - as usual. I once sold Bosch automotive test equipment and they would never listen to concerns or suggestions.
    Everything they makes is perfect and in OZ we don’t need things like ROS dust extractor accessories which, btw, are manditory in the USA.
