Default Buying machinery from the USA - any experiences

Am looking into buying a table saw, bandsaw, thicknesser, jointer, dust collection system etc. Has anybody ever bought this stuff in the USA and had it shipped over? The prices seem a lot cheaper over there, and a lot are sold in 240V or 3 phase 415V, so should not be a problem using in Australia.

Just wondering how much shipment might be for a load like this, and also customs & duty costs.

I dont think its that worth it mate, i mean frieght is the biggest killer. Then what if the machine breaks down or comes faulty, what do you do then? Plus dont forget prices are in $US dollars which means u got to may more any way when converting.

    Safer to stick to local

I heard that all tools made in china are actually designed in Australia, then the plans are sent to china for cheap labour. I guess if the plans are designed here the tools cant be that bad. Its only made in china cause of cheap labour.

Still, i love my bosch, makita and dewalt too much, wouldnt have it any other way

Well I'm talking about machinery rather than hand power tools.

However, most of the machinery is a version of US or European designs.

Some more than 50 years old.

For instance, the TSC10-HB is a knock off of the Delta Unisaw which was originally made in the US just after the second world war I believe.

Similarly, every 14" bandsaw that you can buy in Oz is a knock off of the original Delta bandsaw from the 50's.

The only Oz designed power tool that is made in China/Taiwan that I'm aware of is the Triton router.
