Cool Does Cameron Potter have a brother - Does he want one?

I ve only been here a week or so, but am somewhat flabbergasted (and daunted) by the contributions from some of the worthy members.

I think just about every thread I've looked at, and in differing categories, has had offerings and comments by my new mate Cam. I haven't spoken to him yet, but I will offer sincere congrats on his knowledge, skills and contributions to these pages.

I'm sure there's others who are as prodigious in their input as Cameron, and I'm already starting to note many of the "regulars", but so far his name is the one that is most ubiquitous.

Actually, I've just noticed that he's only 25 so he's too young to be my brother. Maybe I can adopt him? Very impressive work Mr P.

I look forward to most informative and pleasing recreational diversions in perusing this site. Many thanks to the distinguished contributors. But tell me, do some of you guys sometimes fall behind schedule on your works & projects due to the amount of time spent here. I'm afraid of what I may become!

Finally, maybe we need a glossary of frequently used terms and abreviations here for the new boys like myself?
Eg. What is an SCMS? I know I'll be embarrassed when you tell me. Also, should I convert to the dark side immediately - whatever that is? There's heaps of other stuff but I'm sure I'll grasp it all eventaully.

    Regards. Wayne

Seems like the regulars must be in the shed

SCMS - Sliding compound mitre saw.
Darkside - Hand tool camp, staying away from the electrons.
Goats - Something to do with Ozwinner (Al)

    Hope this is a start.

    SWMBO..She Who Must Be Obeyed.

IMO (In My Opinion), the above should be - SWTSMBO...She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed.

Foiley...One who wraps his/her noggin in foil to stops thoughts being stolen, and prevent mind control.

    TS...tablesaw

Still trying to work out some.

ps. If Cam wants a brother, he can have mine.

I know they are a strange mob, but do the words hand, tool, and camp mean they are about to emerge from the darkside closet:confused: Wonder what Hardenfast thinks about that one coming from someone who Stinksalot

Default Abreviations - no problemo now

Thanks Gents - I'm learning quickly as you can see by the new thread here. The only thing that's stranger (so far) than the abreviations is the user names of some of the members.

I got hardenfast as a twist on the Nike logo - "Just Do It"! Our Hardenfast Constructions logo is - "Don't Just Do It - Do It Hardenfast".

Now that I'm a member here I can change it to:

    "DJDI-DIH"

    Welcome in Wayne!

Have you any projects that you'd care to share with us?

Thanks Steve. I have just completed an entertainment unit for the people I am currently building for. It had to be specifically sized to suit a large amplifier unit etc (2.450 long x 950 high x 600mm deep) with rounded ends (kerf cut base etc) and 3x pocket hinged, panelled doors in the centre of the unit.
Of course they couldn't buy anything off the floor that suited, and noone would make it because they were frightened off by the rounded ends, so they harrassed me until I agreed to do it.
It wasn't so bad actually, and they are quite pleased with it. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos of it during construction or of the finished product, but now that I'm a member here I'll be sure to record anything interesting.
I'm going to restore my wife's new Art Deco styled bedroom dresser unit, which is very nicely finished in (what I think is) Camphor Laurel veneer. All rounded doors, drawers etc and the drawers are stacked on a rake rising backwards towards the top mirrors. Bit of a challenge for a relative novice like myself. Maybe I'll drop a photo or 2 in here if it doesn't bore the beJesus out of everyone?

Thanks for the welcome, Harry - much appreciated. Doesn't seem to be a nut house at all. Maybe that says something about me?

Hi Lignum, Sturdee, Dazzler and the others. Man, I'm going to have to get me one of those avatars (like Dazzler's) and profound quote signature things shortly. Everybody seems to be full of wisdom here (or maybe just bull#### ------ can I say bull#### here?? )

Hmmmm...... I just previewed this. Guess I can't. How about bovine excreta? (preview again)......Yep! That seems to be OK.

Sorry, that bit above sounded so good I had to repeat it.

    G'Day Wayne,
You must be a good bloke as you have the same name as my son and he's a good bloke for a 16yr old...

I have found the people here are the most helpful bunch of loose screws in the workshop and never fail to solve each others problems, they either tell you how to fix it or tell you to try it a different way with the same outcome. some very clever minds on here, (some sick ones too) .

    WARNING.

I may post a lot, but there are plenty of people who know a LOT more than me.

I ask more questions than give useful answers (I think). I do try to get it right and lend a hand where possible - often trying to bring understandings of various areas together to provide a novel solution (spent too much time doing research I think).

I really appreciate the thought though - warm fuzzies and all that .

I like the idea for your name (Hardenfast) and I also echo Skew's comment. Thinking outside the box to come up with bovine excretia is what this is all about - and and talking the bovine excretia helps too!
