    Question Chain Mortise Machine

    Hi guys, I am in the market to purchase a chain mortise machine. I need some advice as to which machine would best suit my purpose. I am looking for a machine that can mortise a hole approx 50mm X 200mm. This is for Heritage style fencing (post and rail), utilising cypress pine timber. I have recently looked at the ProTool mortice machine, it appears to be a very good tool but I am wanting something that is mounted or can be mounted in a pedestel type arrangement.

    That sort of work has traditionaly ( recent past ) be done with a hand held chain saw. there is aparantly an accessory that makes the operation a bit easier and safer but if you want a bench mounted machine you will probaly need to make it.

    One other option would be to use a drill press and a big boring bit and round the tennons.

    would a reciprocating(?) saw work for this?:confused:

    I'd point you to the Makita online cattledog, but it's a Java thing, and nearly impossible to navigate if you can't read some Japanese.

    Look for either model numbers 7100B or 7104.
