many boaties import echo sounder/ gps combo units successfully for the same reason. What costs $1,800 in Oz costs about half (in $AUD) in States. Makes ya spit chips funding some aussie offshoot of yankee manufacturer. AND they don't offer any preferential service if purchased locally, I know coz i've been there.

Watch the warranty clauses (talk to your local husky dealer as someone suggested - damn good idea), some manufacturers will not offer worldwide support, have to return to US for repair.

As others have stated choose your carrier carefully to ensure you're not paying over the odds for duty, taxes etc.
Quick call to customs will find out best way to get it into country.
I reckon surface mail, even if it takes a few weeks. Also talk to the US dealer, see if you can get names of other aussies who have purchased from them and contact them for reference.

    good luck

    2. drop by your local Husquvarna dealer and tell them you've got an overseas sourced saw that's still under warranty but not running and will they fix it please? (I think the answer will be "no") As I understand it, the local agent is paid by the Australian distributor for any warranty repairs ar may even return it to the distributor for inspection and repair. As the distributor hasn't sold the saw nor made any money out of it, they're hardly likely to want to fix an import.

I'l do that. Will get in touch with customs, and try a nice dealer in the Northern suburbs of Perth. Anyone to recommend?

I still think I should do it, because saving 400 dollars is a lot of money!
Whats the warranty usually on these saw? Does anyone know?

Thanks for all your advice here!

If you have a mate in America that can forward one you might be able to do a bit better on price. There's another store that has these saws for $599.00, but does not ship to international customers. You could get your costs down below $900 Aus with a little shopping around and accepting the 3 months surface mail.

Thanks. I've got some mates there, I am even going to the US in a month myself, but won't have time to shop around, as it's a business trip without a lot of free time ...

In my searches I found out Canada is even cheaper. I've got a mate there as well, so I might drop him a line later ...

    thanks for thinking along!

Just remember though that Canadian prices won't show Provincial sales tax nor GST, so you have to factor in another 15% approximately. Of course if you buy it there and take it out with you the 7% GST (only) is refundable.
