Question Yet another saw bench question

    Hi all

I'm replacing a saw bench and have been offered a 20 year old Dyco Durasaw (10" 1.5hp) in very nice condition. I owned one or these many years ago and recall that it was sturdy, well built and would probably last forever.

The fence is the only weak point that I can see in this, in that I would need to consider adding something better.

    1. What options are there to fit a better fence and what sort of money is likely to be involved?

    2. What do you think would be a reasonable price to pay for the Dyco?

    3. Anything else that you think I should consider but have missed here?

    Thanks guys

    Woody II,

I've just updated the fence on my 1950s Woodfast Universal sawbench. I considerered all options including making a Biesemeyer style fence. I opted for the aluminium Chinese one in the pictures primaraly due to weight. It is the table of the Woodfast saw that lifts to adjust cutting depth, on a single large dovetail slide near the blade with a secondary brace on the left side. I was concerned that adding excesive weight to the table may affect its operation.

Timbecon sell a version of the fence I used for $180. Unfortunatly that version of the fence was too short for my saw. For similar money Roy from Get Woodworking sourced one for me from a Leda saw with a sliding table, this one has shorter rails, which suited me, and a long enough fence.

The only real comlication in fitting it was to increase the vertical distance between the rails and the top of the table to provide clearance for the buzzer. This required a making couple of packers, modifying the the clamp at the far end of the fence, and making a new larger diameter roller

I tried it out today and Iam very pleased with the results. let me know if you need more details.

    Cheers

    Brett

    Swiften,

Its called an Align a Rip, I bought it from 'Get Woodworking' in Williamstown Vic. They are a Leda dealer and this fence is the type that is fitted to a 12inch Leda saw with a sliding atachment. To answer your second question - the table rises and falls, hence the choice of an aluminium fence system.

    Cheers

    Brett
