Default chuck jammed open - bosch 18v cordless :(

model is PSB 18 LI-2 and pic below

not the first time its happened either- around 2 years old with 2 perfect batteries - any one got a quick way of fixing it - i pulled apart but the clutch motor etc is in a sealed container - no visible way of removing the chuck ie no screw down the spout or any other obvious way to get it off - used to be the batteries would die but obviously batteries are better built and the machine itself is rubbish unlike its 8 year old brother

This might sound drastic but have you tried using a big pair of multi grips or stilsons?

that was my next step - i sprayed inside the chuck with wd40 and set it aside for an hour or two - then managed to get it to release. It was making some strange grating noises and I somehow think it ain't quite what it used to be. However it is working and I'll continue to use it until something else goes wrong. Never been too happy with it and from what I remember at the time I bought it definitely wasn't cheap

Fixed chucks.... wonder what idiot thought that one up.

My "Pro" Bosch drills are all the same: both 18v & 36v - even the flamin' Swiss ones. Given that a chuck, like a battery is ultimately a consumable item, especially if worked hard in a dusty or abrasive environment, the only viable remedy is a whole new drill, as a new 'front end' will be almost or even more expensive!

Frankly, I find it disgusting in any modern manufacturer with any purported modicum of green aspirations. This is one of the reasons that I've stopped buying Bosch cordless. From now on I'm getting into Metabos with modular quick-change chuck assemblies as & when I can afford to.
    Sycophant to nobody!
