    Default Circular Saw, help please!

    Hi Folks,
I need to buy a 9 1/4" Circ Saw, but can only afford up to $300 at the moment. It will spend most of its time under a Triton saw table doing some ripping. Occasionally some cross cutting.

I need to resize timber before using a band saw but once in a blue moon will have a crack at making book shelves etc. Mostly though I just make hand carved timber fishing lures as a hobby.

It's not a lot of money I know, but some advice would be very helpful.

Just for the hell of it, I'll send the first custom, hand carved, fishing lure produced off of the new saw to the person offering the best bit of advice.

    Thanks,
    Shayne

$300 should get you a really good 235mm circular saw (Makita, Hitachi, Bosch, Dewalt, etc), just stay away from GMC/Ozito and you'll be happy.

    Is a Hitachi 9 1/4 c9 a good saw?

The lures work by the way.

Yes they are a good saw. They were what Triton used to indicate as a prefered saw for the saw bench

    Nice catch

I use one for my hand-held and couldn't be happier with it.

I've never tried it under my WC2000 though... 'cos t'is already occupied by a big Triton saw.

But I'd have no hesitation about slapping the C9 under there if needed.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Thanks guys, for the help. In the end couldn't decide between hitachi and makita, really liked the base plate on hitachi, hated the transformers styling. Had good experience previously with makita not sure the base plate was the best for hanging under saw bench. Coin toss in the end and got makita, hope this was the right decision. The bill was $270 which seemed ok.

Anyway, I've got a new small bass/bream lure in development, also trialling a new finish. So guys, pm me an address and I'll flick one out after the next run, which with work commitments will be prob. 3 weeks.
    Cheers,

I agree. I have had one under my Triton saw bench for years. Never missed a beat and has done plenty of ripping.
