Compound mitre saw help needed
Hi
I'm new to any type of handyman work. Im going to attempt to build a deck and wanted to buy a drop saw. But I don't have a clue what to look for and what is a good brand for me.
I have a $300 gift voucher from Masters so would like to buy from there and didn't want to put much more money in if possible. Can someone give me some advice, pros and cons of what is available
thanks

Yes it is and +1 for Makita, but a cheap Ozito will serve just fine if all you're doing is a deck and don't need precision to 1 decimal place.

If you only intend doing a deck and not pursuing more wood projects or making it a serious hobby then get the Ozito but if you intend to work with wood long term, get the Makita

It's Christmas - why not sell the car or remortgage the house and buy a Festool SCMS instead!!!!

Thank you all for comments
As I plan to do more woodworking, I'm going to get the Makita from Bunnings and use the gift card for supplies.
Thank you everyone for the info and welcome.

Which makita at Bunnings is worth getting? I was under the impression that the ls1017 wasn't all that accurate. I'm in much the same boat and looking for a replacement SCMS

the LS1017 is built for Bunnings only. From memory, it only bevels in one direction - to the Left - not Right.
$20 more and you can get the LS1018 which bevels Left and Right.
This site has specs for the Ls1017 - they are not on the Makita site
Specifications; Instruction Manual; General Safety - Makita LS1017 Instruction Manual [Page 2]
Check Makita site for LS1018 specs

Unfortunately, shopping by brands only is no longer a viable strategy especially from places like Bunnings who have popularized the concept of in house models, models that are generally only sold in Bunnings, they're cheaper and inferior to the original models that made Makita a house hold name. Makita is heavily involved in making knock offs of their own great products. The end results are quite disappointing for those who have had experienced with their quality products in the past.
Take a look at the two makitas one from bunnings that was made in China, and unfortunately not well made at all, and the original McCoy that was made in Japan and was listed on ebay recently. You should be able to see the differences in quality in the both materials used as well as that of manufacturing. The LS-1013 is a solid saw and will cut true every time, while the other Makita - you might as well buy an Ozito. I don't think there is much difference there.

Ok so can one get a decent saw at Bunnings for under $1000? Not a top of the line model but a well built decent enough saw?

If I was buying a saw for <$1000, Bunnings would not be the place that I would be looking at.
