Compound Sliding mitre saw
Hey All,
I am looking for a good Compound Sliding Mitre saw to cut mainly 45 degree angles, my budget is around $500, but if I have to fork out $1K for a Mak I will.
What do people think about the GMC compound slide mitre saws?

The Makita's come highly recommended.
I may have some information on where you can get a Makita on special for $799 at the moment but you have a smartarse comment in your details in regard to where you live so I don't know if my information will be of any help.
Anyone in the West who is interested. Colli have the LS1013 on special in their May calelog.

Dear Red,
If you're willing to stretch to 1g for a Makita, I'd be having a real good think about the Hitachi C12RSH instead. I've heard nothing but good things about them. 12" slider with belt-drive (so it should be quieter than the Mak), and it bevels both ways because the motor sits on top (which also gives the additional benefit of better balance).
They've got them in the latest Glenford's catalogue for $875 (same price as a 10" single-bevel Mak...) That's a lot of saw for the money!
Try ringing Total Tools - their prices are usually reasonable, and there aren't too many Glenfords down your way.
(Somewhere in NSW that is... )
Best Wishes,
Batpig.

I love my Mak.
I got the LS1214B from Sydney Tools for $950, delivery to FNQ was an extra $30.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Cant speak highly enough of the Hitachi- dunno how quiet the Mak is , but the Hitachi is still a screamer, although the wife isnt bothered by it when i fire it up in the garage (under the house). Got mine in Bris at the Trade expo, cost $850, with a free hitachi 1/2" router ($300 odd value). Router is still in the box while i work on other things, but it is a weapon, just like the saw. Laser is a cheap gimmick, but i guess it could be useful. Probably more so than the one on the GMC jigsaw (?)
Just saw the new Glenfords catalogue has Hitachi C12RSH for $875. They arent always the cheapest, so shop around and see if someone will beat it.

Don't know the answer to your first one, I saw it somewhere else and thought I would give it a whirl Maybe the censor is American
Colli is here:

I have seen them at a couple of the larger Bunnings at this price in the past, not recently though.

I bought my Hitachi for (I think) $1,100 when they first came out and up until 5 minutes ago I was very happy with it. I want $200+ off & a free router too!

Buying a SCMS
Hey Red,
Would give the cheapies a miss and go for Makita, Hitachi, Bosch.
Be patient, wait for someone to come with them on special, then take the 'special' along to Bunnings and ask them to beat that price by 10%.
Worked for me. Recently bought a 10 inch Makita that was on special at Glenfords for around the $870 mark. Got it at Bunnings for $783 and that I thought was a deal.

Do you need the sliding function? If you don't then a plain mitre saw will be half the price. A lot of folks still prefer them over sliders.

Burnsy.......that Colli catalogue http://www.colli.com.au/catalogue/ColliMay2008.pdf might be advertising a LS1013 but the Makita saw pictured in the catalogue is the LS1040 (see below) which makes much more sense at this $800 price point...somebody has made a booboo
Gasweld have the LS0714 compound slide for $862 https://ishop.gasweld.com.au/ishop/s...tem/LS0714-MAKOurs is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

Yeah they have the wrong picture in the catelog, have done for the past three catelogs that i recall but I have been in there and it is the LS1013 that they are selling. Last catelog included one of those dewalt Chinese ripoff stands as well for the same price - that was a good deal.

I must confess up front that I like yellow power tools. I have quite a few DeWalt accumulated over the years and no problems with any of them. Yesterday I set up my new DW718. A thing of beauty to behold and spot on accuracy out of the box - so far.
I'm aware Sydney Tools are currently quoting $900 with a come on down if you want to negotiate further. Not bad.
I have no affiliation with ST's and provide the info in the forum spirit of sharing opportunities and knowledge. In fact I have not always been totally satisfied with ST's service/PR on the few occasions that I have used them - but often you can't beat their price. So, alright, I can be seduced by dollars - but I'm no tart, just an old would-be-if-he-could-be woody.
For the record I did not buy my DW718 from ST's. Mine is a rebuild/second from the DeWalt service shop as are all my other fabulous DeWalts.
