    Default Compressors

After having the cheap GMC compressor for a while i thought it was time to upgrade to a new one. I am getting sick of the amount of noise it makes
The one i am looking at is this one.

Seems like a good buy. But before i order it i was hoping if anyone here who knows anything about compressors could tell me if its a good unit. I will mainly use it for some basic spray painting, inflating tyres, air gun and and nail guns.

I have one of those.........excellent compressor. It fills the tank real quick and best of all is that one can keep a conversation going next to the running compressor. Very quiet. I got mine from Carbatec in Perth and only paid $395-00 for it. It is not a regular Carbatec line but Carbatec Perth is a stockist, i.e. it is not in the big C cattledog. You will be very happy with this model compressor...........I use it for spraying, dust blowing, pumping wheels etc. It will run air tools although I don't use them as I think that they are uneconomical to run.

John, I'm in the same boat. Had a good look at them at the Perth WW show and then asked around a bit and haven't heard any negatives yet. The belt driven are very quiet.

Good Luck and hope it works out for you. Like to hear the results

yep it sure seems the goods.
    Thanks for the replies.
Joe just one more question if you know the answer.
Will the compressor maintain 60pound when constantly spraying?
This is my greatest concern at the moment as i have a few spray jobs on to do with 2pak paint and have been told the compressor needs to maintain this pressure.

    Johna,

Obviously the liters per minute used depends on the spraygun that you use. I have 3 guns all gravity feed that I use regularly. A standard gun with 1.4 nozzle, a touch up gun and also a HVLP gun and have no problems with air supply or pressure when spraying. I spray at 2 to 4 bar(abt 56 psi) pressures, the compressor actualy cycles during spraying. It means that as the pressure drops it will start and actually fills the tank while I am spraying to the poinbt where it switches off.
In short, with my guns, all gravity feed guns: Yes.

great to hear. I am using a HVLP gun with different size nozzles depending on the job at hand.
Once again thank you very much for the replies.
Tomorrow i will order the compressor, good quality retactable hose and a regulator/air filter with a semi auto drain valve.

    G'day JohnA,

I've also been looking at the Transquip site with purchase of a compressor in mind. I'd love to hear your opinion on their service after you take delivery of your new compressor.

    Thanks,

    Justin.

Should i get the 3/8 hose or 1/2" hose and is the regulator filter in the link suitable.

Johna, Go the 1/2" hose as its better for tools etc. Don't know about the reg. Its been my practice in the past to fit a replacement or additional moisture trap/filter. I normally make up a small manifold on the wall with some 1/2" quick release connectors and the reg on the line I want lower pressure at. I know that a lot of the cheap combo trap/regs are pretty useless as they don't actually regulate that well.

    Cheers

    Joe.
So far they have been very good. They have promptly replied to all my questions and have told me delivery will take around 4 days.
Delivery was not expensive. $23.50 for the compressor, retractable 16mtr hose, filter regulator and tyre inflator

Why on earth is there any noticeable advantage of 1/2" hose over 3/8" hose given that Johnna was only looking at 16 metres of hose??

Yea i ended up just ordering the 3/8" anyways but the price difference between the 3/8 and 1/2 in the same length was only $9
I doubt i will ever use the bigger rattle guns or anything that may require the 1/2" hose.

Have a look at the internal bore of the fittings one day Bob. Trust me, on tools it makes a huge difference.

Cheers from a former boilermaking workshop manager where nobody ever used air tools because they were gutless but now (by some magic trickery) an electric power tool is hardly ever used.

Well i must say the service was fairly good from the guys at transquip.
All my goodies have arrived and they even rang me to tell me it was on the way and if anyone would be home to accept the delivery.
I have no hesitation in recommending them as an online merchant
