My constant begging has produced results
Hey All,
After years of promising to behave and walk the dog, my wife is allowing me to buy a bandsaw at the upcoming woodshow. The only problem is that I don't have alot of experience buying bandsaws. What I am looking to use it for is resawing, cutting cabriole legs and the like. What are some of the features that I should be sure to get, and what can I do without?
Thanks in advance

Gidday there.
I'll get in first -"do a search"
That said, save yourself a lot of worry and buy the JET14"DX. It has just about everything you need, and is very well thought of by users in Oz. Get the riser kit - it will allow you to resaw up to 12" logs, and do veneer. The only way to get rid of a [Domino] temptation is to yield to it. Oscar Wilde

I went to a woodshow and bought the cheapest decent looking bandsaw there a Ryobi 230mm
It had extremely little instruction, and I have found it a rather constant headache, but I honestly do not know an awful lot, just the bare minimum, if you are like me, I probably wouldn't suggest this machine
RatbagI know that you beleive that you understand what it is that you think that I said; But I am not sure that you realise that what you heard is not what I meant

If you are after resaw you would do well with a machine that has say 2hp motor and preferably bigger than 14". Mine is I think 1hp 14" wish I had 2hp 16 or 17". Bigger motor is a bonus especially on resawing.

I may not be right but I think the Jet/Grizzly/Delta stuff is all from the same joint in Taiwan. Carbatec stuff is largely ex China?

I'm not sure about Jet or Delta.
But Grizzly had most of there casting made in the Asian market and them assembled in the USA. The Delta stuff and the Jet stuff you don't see clones of them around.
Mark can drive to Grizzly and just pick him up one, I sure they will deliver to Canada too.
For the Woodies down under Carbar-Tec looks like a dead copy of Central Machinery, and it looks like the Grizzly Ones. I have seen the Central Machinery 17" BS and it is 100% a clone of mine Grizzly 17". The Carbar-tec 19" they lave listed on the web page is 99% like the Grizzly 19" (Model G0514 no longer for sale ). all but switch and the door is the same. Carba-Tec is a one piece door and Grizzly is a 2 piece door. I have looked at all the Pics for the Carba-Tec 19" on there page and all the detail shots are the same features on my 17" Grizzly BS , Same scale, same fence ( but taller ) and so on
Hope this helps...JunkBoy999

Nice contrasting montage - useful as I'm in the market for a B/S with a resaw capacity of at least 300mm (c12").

Thanks all, I am hoping I will find a 2hp (or better) Jet or if possible a Grizzly, I am doing alot of resawing of pretty expensive wood (bloodwood, morado, and black walnut) and it breaks my heart to waste it by making sawdust.
By the way, I sent Lee Valley (it's about 30 minutes from my house) a link to this forum and got a really nice email back saying how impressed they are with it
Thanks again
