    Default Copy right laws

    Regarding the Durden manual

I googled and found the website but there is only the parts list wheras I have the complete manual which covers all adjustments and troubleshooting etc.

If I were to scan/copy this and place it on the forum would it contravene copyright laws.

I don't have a problem doing this as I think they are still a great little machine but without the manual could be tricky to tune.

Personally, (without knowledge of the laws) I would say that it might, as I contacted them last year, and bought a manual for the Durden Junior Joiner, so I would say that as they still apparently sell the manuals, that they mightn't be too happy about the manual being "published" by someone else.

I didn't know they still sold the manuals as mine came with the machine and there is no mention of copyright in it.

    Does the company still exist?

If it do they probably still have copyright on the manual, and you should get their permission before posting it.

If they are non-existant, then realistically there is no one to claim copyright on the manual and it's unlikely there would be any legal problems.

    Cheers

    THIS website ...

    http://www.axmell.com.au/tempjrd/ABO...out_Durden.htm

Shows a download option for the instruction manuals, though it does not work and shows that the page could not be found.

I know from a telephone enquiry I made over a year ago, that they had a few months prior to my enquiry discarded many of the spares they had. I guess the demand for spares and the cost of holding the stock were not feasible.

The small part *I* wanted was waaaaaaay overpriced.

I would think that if the manual is over 50 years old then the copyright would have expired. A telephone call to Durden may clarify the situation.
    Kind Regards

    Peter

    Default durden

Apparently Hercus sell what little machinery Durden make. According to the website I found when I Googled Durden.

About 5 yrs ago I tried to find a dust extractor system for the saw and even then they were only making limited types of machinery for schools etc.

The guy on the phone said they were being forced out of the market by cheeper imports which is a shame as It is a solid unit and well built for working timber.

The answer is that Durden is still in business even if they are hard to contact.

If you can't get no satisfaction message me and we can sort something out. After all, that is what this forum is all about. Helping others.
