I've had a Festool 15+3 for about a year now. It's a fantastic tool I enjoy using it. There is a lot more control and comfort than other drills I've owned. The attachments are great too.

I also have a Metabo and have no complaints with that.

It really depends what your intended use is. If it's cabinet or furniture making then Festool is a real standout. In carpentry Protool is more appropriate. In that context Metabo and Bosch are well worth considering too they are not quite in the same league as Protool but many consider them as superior value for money.

Several folk I know in the electrical trades love their Panasonic drills/drivers.

Agreed. The Protool 18V QuadDrive is in a class of it's own.
4 speed with a top speed of 3800 rpm, so it can really drill as well as being a driver. Quick charging. Electronic clutch, no rattling slip clutch. More torque than my big corded Metabo.
It's price, of course is also in a class of it's own, but I don't regret the purchase.

I endorse what others have said about the Protool 18v Quadrive. I have used one for two years, and consider that it is in a class of its own. Size, weight, balance, power, 4 speeds, electronic clutch are all great. It has rubber trim pieces at the extremities to stop it sliding off roofs and other sloping surfaces. Batteries seem to go on forever. If I have one criticism, it is too easy to knock the reversing switch inadvertently. Other than that, (and the price), it is tops!!

the new 18volt panasonics to me are the bees knees and you dont need special bits just uses off the shelf screwdriver bits.
I use the combination of a drill driver and the impact screwdriver
they outlast my old panasonic 14.4 li-ion set for battery duration
I've never had so much power in a cordless before

I've had a 14.4V Panasonic drill/driver the past 4 years - still powering on, has never let me down. Will definitely go Panasonic for similar future purchases....

Picked this up in eBay the other day. METABO BSZ18 with 30 minute air cooled charger and 2 x 18 volt NiCd batteries that still have plenty of go. Got 60 nm of torque in 1st gear which'll break your wrist before it stops. Made in Germany (not just 'Nürtingen').

Only paid 29 Euro for it so I'm happy...

What application are you going to use your drill?

Festool is mainly for the cabinet making/ woodworking industry and Protool is for the construction industry. Protool is not a 'poor-mans' Festool as widely believed.

I've been very fortunate to use a variety of festool drills and every one of them superb. I have been using a T15+3 and love it but if there is just one drill to own, I'd go the C15 (the enclosed version of the 15+3).

As far as impact drivers go, Panasonic is pretty much the bees knees. I've been using mine for 5 years and still works beautifully despite the rough treatment we give it.

Power may be a concern, but I am also currently using the Milwaukee M12 hammer and impact drill combo. I call it the 'Goldilocks' drill because it is just right. Just enough power and battery life but very light and compact - I use it all day so hand fatigue is a very important consideration for me. The battery life is short but on the other hand, it also charges very quickly. A bonus is the M12 battery which works with a variety of tools.

I have a makita 18v LiOn. its good; has hammer function and dont have to pay festo mark up. why pay more,. it just drills holes right?

get a new rip blade for your table saw - get a flai... put your money in that instead!

I have owned Makita, Hitachi and Panasonic.
Makita were good but in the last couple of years have been made in China. I have known many people that buy them from the US via Ebay (US made) but these come without warranty and local Makita wont sell you parts if they find out. The Hitachi is good for carpentry I find. But Panasonic has so much more to offer. I rarely meet someone that has changed away from Panasonic especially with the 3.5Ahr battery. But be warned Panasonic is starting to come out of China and I cant comment on these.

Best drill, the protool quad drive. Stunning drill. I know its elite, at the top of the class and expensive, but wow, nothing comes close. Seriously the best drill ever.

For the non tradies and home woodies who just make stuff and want the best high end on a budget and need a great cordless around the house and workshop, the Festool cxs is without peer. I know people love their Makitas, Panasonics etc, but the first time you get this into your hand you know it has to go home with you. Pound for pound, best drill ever made.

I also have one of these has not let me down tons of torque if needed with a spare battery one charge of the battery lasts for a long time.
